I don’t believe that’s true at all we had people starting our place last year literally I lasted five minutes on delivery at and three only one stayed two lasted less than one month said it was far too physical and not worth it for the money as it’s all part time job is knackered and consistently getting it worse I think we’ll end up like Amazon or yodel eventually the future is not looking good

Ok fair enough. I certainly cant say what the national picture is like but here in my rural community work opportunities are poor and at best part time/seasonal.

Without a shaddow of doubt the regulator will force RM to split into sveral companies and any changes youve seen so far will be like a playgroup paintng compared to whats coming. My advise would be if you dont like it now, get out quick as massive changes are coming when RM hits the iceberg that is dead ahead.

Just as a parting food for thought. How long would you expect to be unemployed for and looking for a new job if you left RM today? How may applications do you think youd need to make to get a job?

I passed the 100 applications and rejections milestone earlier this year and in all that Ive had just one interview for a job that I didnt get. In 3 RM applications Ive been totally ignored once, and not kept up to date on the other two. One was unsucessful the other is just dormant as testing complete. From an outsiders viewpoint RM recruitment is the utter shambles that everything else appears to be.

Any chance i can have your job when you leave?

Feck Norfolk i know you could do with the job but you dont half give it the doom and gloom, if you know so much about where royal mail is going i suspect you should be looking a management role in the company as you seem to have all the attributes for that position.

'put up with an hour or two's unpaid overtime everyday'. The workers that fought and died for better working conditions a century ago, would be turning in their graves, if they could hear such weak and pathetic talk.

I don’t where our countryside dwelling chum lives exactly, but where I live in the south east, there are recruitment posters everywhere for similar work to what ours is , (unskilled labour) and the pay rates are comparable, so I suggest you move to where you will have more chance of getting your dream job with Royal Mail.

Same as above, jobs are cropping up round here, don't get me wrong I like this job,I like the attendance,I like the 6 weeks holidays, I don't like how ineffective our Dom is and the increasingly unachievable duties but that old chestnut of we're paid extremely well is no longer the case there's factory/warehouse/production type jobs offered round here £25k, I don't fancy it myself but my 2 local Aldi stores apparently pay £13/hr.

It is an old chestnut when you're on a 27hr contract taking home an annual salary of less than 17k.

Surely senior management should be getting chewed for QoS failures by now? I posted a medical 24hr tracked returns parcel in a priority postbox yesterday morning, long before final collection times, 30 hours later and it's only been scanned in my local MC which is nowhere near the required destination. You can make all the cuts and savings you want, but there has to be a point management are held accountable for the staffing shortages at all points in the network.

To say the pay is wonderful is pushing it a bit and only telling half the story.
I recently worked my day off on overtime for the princely sum of £65 after tax for an almost 8 hour day.

That's piss poor by anyone's measure and had it not been a favour for a colleague i would have told them to poke it. Most of my mates who work elsewhere turn a sub par basic into a decent wage by doing a bit of OT because they're on double time or at the very least time and a half. My pay looks worse the more overtime I do. I'm actually embarrassed to tell my mates how s**t it is.

I mean, far from being without doubt. I think it's batshit crazy that OFCOM would look to break up Royal Mail, a truly bizarre statement with literally no basis in reality.

Part of the remit of OFCOM is to maintain the Universal Service. Splitting up the company makes no sense whatsoever, it would be the single most effective way to destroy the USO. Even a change to the minimum requirements of the USO, needs to be signed off by Government.

You've completely misread the situation. Some former CEOs would have loved to split the company up. The Regulator is more likely to be the one preventing that, than the one sanctioning it. The paradigm that OFCOM operates in with regards to Royal Mail, is pretty clear, feel free to read the legislation:

I think if there did do any splitting it'd be splitting PF from RM

I've worked it out at 7.70 take home after 38 hours, so taking pension out of the equation.
Less after another 10 hours, around 7.45.
Not much unless you can do it in less time.
I dont even consider it unless I know I can get at least double time for my efforts.
Something people here squirm at for some reason.
But sorry, 7.70 an hour for doing extra when you're already knackered or piss wet through/boiling hot after a 5 hour delivery- no chance.
