Re: mail centres
If we don't have the red sleeves available then we have to use cardboard ones and grey ones. We can't magic red sleeves out of thin air.
If you've got any item that's over 2.5Kg then you're not allowed to use the bases in the card board sleeves and you're virtually always going to get at least 1 item in a sleeve weighting more than 2.5Kg.
When we get sent new cardboard sleeves they don't send us bases anymore. The bases can't be used with cardboard sleeves being sorted on a PSM so RM are probably withdrawing them. Again, we can't magic bases out of thin air.
It's a case of tough s**t, it's as simple as that. If cardboards and greys are all we have, that that's what we have to use

SO we all have to get used to lifting packets from the bottom of broken yorkies, or basless cardboard shrouds. If that came down from the bosses I would be striking immediately.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑06 Aug 2021, 17:53With using cardboard sleeves I'm afraid it's just tough luck. If that's all we have then that's what'll be used. Red sleeves with broken springs are no different from using grey sleeves which go all the way down.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑06 Aug 2021, 08:39Doesn't matter if you don't have spares - cardboard shrouds and broken shrouds should not be sent as they are an H&S risk and are banned unless senior managers give direct authorisation for the cardboard shrouds.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑05 Aug 2021, 06:47If we had spares we could, why do you think we send so much stuff out in cardboard sleeves these days?Zicomurphy wrote: ↑04 Aug 2021, 21:15Redskins with broken springs so as you empty them they don’t raise up and you end up having to bend right over time and time again to get the packets at the bottom. When they are empty it’s obvious the springs are screwed so how hard is it to replace it with a working one?
I'm afraid we'll all need to get used to cardboard sleeves not having bases as the bases can't be used with PSMs. If there's any packets in a sleeve that weigh over 2.5Kg then again the bases can't be used.
Mail Centres Managers are essentially saying tough luck to DO Posties that they will have to lift the incorrect way and may damage their back. In essence, they are saying getting the mail out is more important than the H&S of the posties emptying them.
I know you are saying this personally spacephoenix but I would hope that Mail Centre posties could see the issue and help the Delivery Office posties.

Re: mail centres
Over time the grey sleeves will replace the red sleeves. They've been brought in because the flaps of the red sleeves cause problems with the feed on PSMs.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑07 Aug 2021, 15:28indeed about 10% of all the sleeves we get are greys.
At the end of the day, if card boards and greys are all we've got then we've got no choice but to use them. Reverting back to bags is no longer an option

Re: mail centres
I work Tracked in a Mail Centre and we are told we cannot send out Grey Sleeves or MK4(the PSM clear plastic fronted sleeves) to DO's so that only leaves Red Sleeves and Cardboards. Now as at least 50% of the Cardboard Sleeves come in without a base that limits exactly what we can send Tracked in to DO's. Not quite sure why MK4 cannot be used as they at least have a solid base in and are built for coping with heavier items so don't collapse like Cardboards when anything heavier gets thrown into them

I've not seen any Kk4s recently so maybe they've been got rid of.denhamhoop wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 16:02I work Tracked in a Mail Centre and we are told we cannot send out Grey Sleeves or MK4(the PSM clear plastic fronted sleeves) to DO's so that only leaves Red Sleeves and Cardboards. Ultimately it's down to what a MC has available to use. One way or another the packets have to go to the DOs as we don't have the room to store them

Lack of storage or equipment in an MC trumps H&S of Posties in a DO.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 19:32I've not seen any Kk4s recently so maybe they've been got rid of.denhamhoop wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 16:02I work Tracked in a Mail Centre and we are told we cannot send out Grey Sleeves or MK4(the PSM clear plastic fronted sleeves) to DO's so that only leaves Red Sleeves and Cardboards. Well, that could lead to massive claims in the future.

Cause if you do them and sustain an injury it will be your fault. As you are responsible for your own H&S.

Re: mail centres
DOs keep forgetting that MCs will be processing mail not just fore them but probably 20 odd DOs and will also be processing mail for areas outside that covered by the MC. One shifts storage area will be another shifts work area. Generally every part of the floor is used now, and that's without it being xmas pressure.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 09:08Lack of storage or equipment in an MC trumps H&S of Posties in a DO.

Using bags is not an option as we don't have the frames or the room to be using bags.
Guess you've missed multiple times when I've point out that:tractorboy2 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 09:43Tell your manager you're not doing them on H&S grounds then.

* The bases of cardboards can't be used if it's going to be processed by a PSM
* Red sleeves cause problems with the feed on PSMs as packets get stuck in the flap
* The bases of cardboards can't be used if there's even 1 item in them weighing in excess of 2.5kg. It's very rare to not get at least 1 item in a sleeve weighing more than 2.5Kg
If cardboards without bases and grey sleeves are all that we have available then that's what will be used and if need be Mk4s

Re: mail centres
Space Phoenix , my reply wasn't to you ! You and others have pointed out to these delivery officers why they don't receive packets etc as they would like , and my somewhat abrupt response is to them.

I think RM have started to phase the red sleeves out. I've not seen any new ones for agestractorboy2 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 11:21Space Phoenix , my reply wasn't to you ! Re: mail centres
And you are missing the point BASELSS CARDBOARD SHROUDS are a health and safety hazard to actual Human beings. We have to lift heavy objects out of them in an unsafe way, or pull the sides out when they are weighed down by the parcels. The same with grey shrouds on the lifting.tractorboy2 wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 09:43Tell your manager you're not doing them on H&S grounds then.TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑11 Aug 2021, 09:08Lack of storage or equipment in an MC trumps H&S of Posties in a DO.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 19:32I've not seen any Kk4s recently so maybe they've been got rid of.denhamhoop wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 16:02I work Tracked in a Mail Centre and we are told we cannot send out Grey Sleeves or MK4(the PSM clear plastic fronted sleeves) to DO's so that only leaves Red Sleeves and Cardboards. You say we have no choice we have to accept the situation - that is making me angry. It makes me angry when getting the post out is more important than the H&S of my colleagues.
Also carboard shrouds have been banned, why because of H&S concerns.
As to telling the manager, we do. Locally I kick up a stink, and because I provided photos to prove it, we rarely get them because the MC manager got involved. Apparently, it wasn't coming from the managers, it was MC posties not raising the issue with their managers and acting on their own initiative.
If you don't have enough red shrouds, raise a stink, please don't endanger DO Posties.
