Where I work , there are quite a few piss takers. One of the worst ones spends half the shift sending texts on their mobile instead of sorting (on NIGHT SHIFT !). They also sneak off to the toilet quite a lot or hide behind the lockers. That's as well as the umpteen sneaky fag breaks they take which we are not supposed to have. If you happen to go to the toilet after this person has been in , the place absolutely STINKS of fag smoke ! The managers say they can't do anything about the smoking in the toilets, we don't have a female manager on night shift . The thing is , other smokers get tarred with the same brush because of this one person. And yes , when the mail in that area isn't getting done , they just get more staff into the area to sort the mail that should have been done by the skivvers ! It's always the staff who get on with their work who have to bail out the lazy b******s. :evil/mad

And this person? Irritatating perhaps, are they getting paid £1.6 mill for their fag breaks? and are they saying that you are 25% overpaid, and are they trying to knick thousands from your pension entitlement.
If they are ,report them to your DOM immediately ,such activities cannot be tolerated

DOMs/MCMs don't care as long as the work is finished and they can get their bonus

No , it's just an extremely selfish member of staff who gets paid the same as everyone else , while everyone else does the work that person should be doing. I'm in a mail centre by the way. To put it into perspective , imagine one postie in a D.O. spending as much of their shift they possibly can get away with skiving , while every other postie is made to take out part of that person's walk.

You can tell you don't work in a delivery office or you would know your last statement is common practice and goes on everywhere.

God help me, but if :cfo & :lfo were to stop insulting everyone who works for Royal Mail, and actually say 'our total wage bill is 25% too high', then they may not be too far from the truth. I bet every Mail Centre or RDC has at least one or two individuals per shift who work really hard at avoiding work. These individuals inflate the wage bill and depress the morale of others to the point where they start skiving off and become bad examples to new starters.

One individual at my office sits on a forklift, texts people (at 6am???) and spends most of the day in the toilet, canteen, tv room or car park. When he can make time in his busy schedule, he will fit in a 25-minute guest appearance on the warehouse floor where he will very occasionally move a cage of mail. When he had a Comp Day recently, as much mail was shifted that day as was done on the previous day, but with one less member of staff. One less person, but productivity went UP, proving that we are overstaffed

:chuckle Yeah jafferpants , I don't and never have worked in a D.O. There's a lot of ex- D.O. posties in the mail centre though and you hear a lot about what goes on in D.O's. Then there are the ones who live in the past and all you hear from them is "the D.O. is this" , "the D.O. is that " "at the D.O. we did or didn't do whatever" and so on. It's interesting listening to them sometimes but the ones who go on and on and on about "when I was in the D.O. ..................." need to get a life. It's as if the whole world revolves round their D.O. and they can't seem to relate to anything outside it. You get the same with some ex- army people , " when I was in the army" creeps into every other sentence they say. I usually have a laugh with these guys and do my best to wind them up :chuckle . Back to the skivers though , I would have assumed it would be harder to skive in a D.O. as there are less staff.

You might think it's harder to skive in a DO but it's all down to the manager! in ours we all know who the piss takers are and nothing is done about, so his score on the have your say survey, when it says "does your manager deal effectively with people that don't perform" is always low!

we all call the guy DUMP as you can guess where he is when IPS is been done, strange that he comes back just after it's finished every time, no he has not got a bowl problem either we have asked, just a lazy git

Same as me. And one of the skivers in our office was the first to put their name forward for one of those 'Dignity And Respect at Work' (DRAW) groups, just to get licensed time off the floor. How the hell do you seriously expect me to listen to a load of lectures about having respect for colleagues from someone who shats on me every day and then goes on to scab all through the strikes ? I bet this individual only went in on strike days because there was no danger of being asked to do any work with there only being 3 people in :evil/mad

As I said earlier in the thread, some people at work have earned my respect over the years. But the skivers will never have my respect.

:Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause Well said johnnypick. Can I just ask , if anyone argues the point if they are asked ( or told as is the style of some managers) to do the work that any of the selfish , lazy , ignorant a***holes don't do ? I don't object in any way to being moved to another work area if it is genuinely busy , but I do make it clear that I am not happy about bailing out the skiving b******s. If they had got on with their work instead of shitting on everyone else , nobody would have to do it for them. I once asked a guy who was standing talking for over an hour if he was going to give me some of his wages for doing his share of the work. He didn't like it but at least he started sorting again. :chuckle

Managers know what's going on, they just ignore it as long as the work is being completed
