There are national protests tomorrow all around the country against the government. This is being run by the Enough is Enough campaign led by Mick Lynch and Dave Ward. We should be out on the picket lines and then out on the streets where these protests are taking place.

This country is going down the pan, and fast.

Does anyone know what the union's "alternative vision" actually entails?

Dave keeps saying the Union wants to "expand the role of postal workers" in order to leverage the 6 day USO deliveries to all 32 million households and in-so-doing, presumably fix the commercial viability problem at the heart of delivering letters to every address in a digital age of year on year declining letter volumes.

If this is the cornerstone of the Union's vision and the position from which it is attempting to negotiate a competitive pay rise and preservation of T&Cs - to the exclusion of the company's own modernization plan - then can they please elaborate on these "innovative new products" that the Union sees us postal workers delivering? And why is the membership not being balloted on whether we would actually want these new roles and whether they are in any way preferable to the company's proposals?

If it's as they claimed during the pandemic, that postal workers should become pseudo-social workers, offering (presumably council/state sponsored) home visits while doing our rounds, as noble as that sounds, I imagine few would prefer this to simply starting an hour later and working an occasional Sunday. Postal workers didn't sign up to be care workers.

So what is the Union's "vision"? It seems important for the membership to know, since we're all now striking to pursue it.

Yep on picket line this morning, numerous customers turning up with 739 cards to pick up their parcels, didn’t have a clue about the strike.

They mentioned senior management & board members aren't in agreement with Simon. Isn't there a option for a vote of no confidence to get him out? He definitely seems to have ulterior motives.

The shareholders could get rid of him but £400 million in a few peoples pockets goes along way!

If rumours are true about them wanting to sell off parts of Royal mail then shareholders won't have anything to profit off anymore. It's in everyone's interest to get rid of Simon.

Rather a big assumption, I would've thought.
Given the generally p*ss-poor CWU communications I'd welcome any platform that leads to better union communication and stuff the pseudo-political aspects.
