It needs to be signed sealed and delivered but can we trust them after the threats in recent days and months going about changing any passed agreements. This is the problem with going down that road but they did threaten us all not just the union but your terms and conditions this is not just about our union trusting Royal Mail but US ALL for we will get a vote on this!
The Christmas we had them by the balls and the CWU called it off to get Christmas out of the way because rm had said they were prepared to talk in January. Then January came around and they let us have it. It's not been the same job since.
Stalling tactics and unfortunately rm know the CWU can't say no to any offer of talks because they would be crucified by the media, rm and politicians if they did.
Thompson has proved himself to be both dishonest and untrustworthy, and this offer to meet is nothing more than a damage limitation and PR exercise from him. There isnt enough time for anything to be discussed that would give reason to call this weekends strikes off now. A 'goodwill' gesture to call of this weekends strikes will have Thompson laughing behind all our backs, don't do it......

The only thing that stops that is Royal Mail agreeing in full to our terms.
Realistically, they're going to struggle to get anywhere as long as the union only wants to negotiate the terms of its own "alternative vision" for the company and not negotiate the best terms for members to enact some of the company's vision. Management will say the Union aren't serious about talks and the Union will say management aren't serious and it'll be back to square one: not talking, and endless - and very probably ultimately fruitless - IA.
As much as we all want a positive outcome from all this, the Union need to accept that their fantasy wishlist plan of A) begging Labour to renationalize the business, and B) saving (and expanding) the USO somehow so that we're all also community social workers and whatnot as an alternative to a full restructuring of the business around efficient parcel delivery, is just not (for A) politically or (for B) commercially viable or realistic. It's a parcels world now, letters are not going to make a comeback in the digital age and they're never going to help balance the books and pay the salaries. The union has to come to terms with that somehow, and cede ground on modernization while also fighting to keep favourable terms and conditions within the new structures. Refusing to budge on ANYTHING is why management are now expanding it to attack EVERYTHING.
This is obviously going to be a fairly unpopular opinion here, so I'm sorry for that, and I do appreciate how hugely important it is to some people that everything stays exactly as it was, but it's not a unique opinion among much of the membership that we need to allow some change to protect our pay and T&Cs going forward. The longer these strikes go on, the more material damage it does to the company finances and the less likely we are to get the decent pay and conditions that we're after; it will simply become unaffordable.

Unless Williams is involved in talks I’m not very optimistic. A meeting with ACAS will be agreed which RM need as a third party mediator before they make their next move.
Everyone needs to stop thinking of this on longevity and rational terms for the sake of the business. People keep telling themselves that management will see sense etc etc. They don't give a flying f**k about a longevity plan.
