Its quite disgusting isnt it? At a time like this, to be making things better for the top 1% and more or less ignoring those at the bottom is just shocking. The whole trickle down economic theory is a nonsense.

The lowest it's ever been was £1.19 from memory, around early March of 2020.

At some point the price might drop below break up value, someone could take over the whole company, separate GLS and Parcelforce and combine them into one company that delivers parcels, competing with the likes of DHL, FedEx, DPD etc.

Then they could take the letters and small packets business and institute a franchise model where bidders could bid for delivery and collection contracts for each town or area, the franchise holder would be responsible for the universal service and might lease branded vehicles from the parent company but they would be responsible for employing the staff.

Many of the staff who currently work for Royal Mail would be in pole position to get jobs with the franchisees but you can bet that the terms and conditions will be a lot worse than they are now in the long term although in the short term there might be some clause whereby any franchisee has to take on existing staff and honour their Ts&Cs for a set period.
