Rumours at our office of week long strikes
It’s my day off but I bumped into a colleague who said that seems to be the latest from the union in our office. Don’t know the full details or if it’s just rumours. Anyone else heard this?

Heard same round our office, probably people willing it into existence. That said, a 4 day strike could see a fair few really considering crossing the picket line.

why would anyone cross the picket line ? Even if we are struggling financially this is s**t or bust for us now !
imagine having no union backing, the managers are bullies now can you imagine what they would be like with no restraints ?

If it were 4 days it would have to be split. Let's say Friday, Saturday, then the next week Monday and Tuesday.
This would work out, yes people would be out of pocket but it's better this way than a straight 4 days off in the same week.

Because a 4 day would wipe out a full weeks wages for a lot of people, myself included. I've come to realisation recently that I wouldn't judge anyone who has to make that difficult decision, we don't know what crap people have going on in their lives. There has to be a better way.

The s*it is real. This is where the difficulties begin. Odd days losing 60 70 quid is bad enough but this is a different ball game.CABANA83 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2022, 12:55Because a 4 day would wipe out a full weeks wages for a lot of people, myself included. Royal Mail know that a fair number of staff will be tempted to buckle and go through the picket lines, and as soon as 5, 10, 20 go back a lot will see it as justification to follow.
I'd just like to reiterate. I know it's incredibly hard to suffer with this but be strong. This is your lives at stake LONG TERM.
We'll be fu**ed permanently if Royal Mail get their way.

IF? I think Royal Mail ARE going to get it their way. With what is being said on here and on workplace it doesn’t look good either way. Only the Flying Spaghetti Monster can save us now. All hail his noodliness. R’amen

You borrow money if you can, you use a credit card, if you have good friends or family ask for help, you bump a few bills into the later pile and live on soup for a week.
You do what you have to do.
It'll be tough but it's best to step back and get a sense of perspective.
Many families have to live like that every single week in this country because their employers get away with screwing them over.

Why not 6 days of disruption…..
Mon-processing
Tues-distribution
Weds-delivery
Thurs-processing
Fri-distribution
Sat-delivery
Massive headache for RM over a week but only 2 days lost per function.

Absolutely right but a lot aren't grasping the gravity of the situation. There's a stark reality that none of us will be working at this firm soon.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑26 Sep 2022, 13:27You borrow money if you can, you use a credit card, if you have good friends or family ask for help, you bump a few bills into the later pile and live on soup for a week.

Should of been this way from the start imo, one day here two days there is useless. But everyone's different, I can go out until they come back to the table however long it takes. They'd start talking sense then!Lawrencepa2014 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2022, 11:27It’s my day off but I bumped into a colleague who said that seems to be the latest from the union in our office. Re: Rumours at our office of week long strikes
One week strike without any pay is recoverable for the vast majority. We can manage somehow. It would be decisive and symbolic. That would have a catastrophic effect on this business. Staff get disillusioned when sacrifice drags on.spaceman07 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2022, 13:35Should of been this way from the start imo, one day here two days there is useless.
