I’m on a weeks holiday, when the funeral is on. Do I get the day back as a holiday or the pay? Or do I get choice?
You get the choice.

Thank you to Simon for making the right decision and allowing Royal Mail employees time off to watch the funeral at home with a nice cup of tea and some tissues.

Why you thanking simon eff all to do with him

glad they made it a bank holiday, as they worded it as a non-service day, e.g unpaid.

We were never going to be working on the funeral, that would have been a PR disaster..
Had it not been called as a bank holiday it would have been a non service day.
Non service days are normally paid as well.
The only difference is if it's your day off you don't get a BH credit.

Just to clarify, now that it has been declared a Bank Holiday, if Monday 19th is your day off, will you get option of getting paid or day off in lieu?

Last bank holiday on the strike week we were told we're no longer allowed to be paid for it. Could take a day off in the same week but they wouldn't cover the round on overtime so you would have two days worth to do the next day. So in effect being forced to take it as a holiday credit. They're sneaky b......s.
Be interesting to see what they do this time

I work Thurs to Saturday only.
Anyone know if I'm entitled to a b/h credit or an extra day off for the funeral?
Similarly, obviously the majority of normal bank Holidays are on a Monday; do I get credits for these?

I wouldn't think so. You don't work Mondays so why would you get a day back?

Your BH entitlement is 3/5 of our entitlement (normally 8 days).
This works out at 4.8 days.
As we have 9 this year it should be 5.4 days.
Make sure you get it credited in your annual leave entitlement.
If not raise a grievance.

We actually have 10 this year. There was an extra one for the jubilee and now another for the funeral.

Cheers for replies everyone.
Is it my managers responsibility via PSP or will this be done automatically?
I actually booked Thurs fru and sat on the week of the last bank holiday Monday's, and only 2 days (12 hours) were debited from my leave account.

It should be done automatically by PSP but it's just another s**t in-s**t out system so there is still that weakness in it.

It's always worth keeping an eye on.
