Re: Union hang your heads in shame
I only found out when I got a text from a manager at 8:45 p.m. and after that, checked the CWU's Facepalm page to check it was true the Friday strike was off. Went to work, but was pee'd off when I found out I could have had an unpaid day off anyway. Wasn't anything saying that on CWU's Facebook! Would've stayed away if I'd known.

Re: Union hang your heads in shame
Brilliant post nobody put a gun to your heads to go to work on friday its the old postman attitude of why should i lose money is wee tam on xx duty is going in,if he doesn't go in then i wont a lotta of bullshit if you feel so strongly about the strikes being cancelled then dont go inDuran wrote: ↑10 Sep 2022, 13:49Well the CWU called off the strike day for 9th to keep public support. What they didn't foresee was 1000's of posties running back to work to save 7 or 8 hours pay.
Knowing the CWU as well as i do 38 years of inner workings. They gave you all a get out of jail card. Due to short notice, those who do not attend will face no repercussions. If you think the CWU wanted you to go to work, think again. Just shows how weak we really are.
We are never going to win this dispute, with colleagues running back to work first chance they get. We are only 3 strike days in for gods sake. I personally stayed at home watched the news and mourned the death of my Queen.
We need to act as one or that Snap on tool of a CEO, will just play the long game waiting for us to crack.

Re: Union hang your heads in shame
Friday nightshift (and even lateshift) had no excuse for not attending and i hope any claims of "short notice " are very quickly put down, nightshift in MC's had 27.5hrs notice.
I know people who went to Paris FFS
When you are on strike you must still be available for work, not on holiday in another part of the UK or even abroad!

Re: Union hang your heads in shame
Got to know the strike has been cancelled I work with a lad who doesn't have internet at home and as no colleagues phoned him nor any management. Surprisingly there was no media coverage of it in the news it's as though some other story took sway. So in spite of 27 hours notice he never turned up for his Night Shift as he was blissfully unaware of the strike being postponed

What a lot of crap.
The strike was called off. If you knew and you could, you went to work.

Re: Union hang your heads in shame
If the CWU called off the strikes to "save face," and announced it to the public (I saw it on my Google feed in both the Torygraph and the Mirror)... How will it benefit the cause to then not show up to work?! Back to the public calling us lazy....

The union provided a safety net for those people that needed it.
Not going to work because you think you are above the decision-making process is the moral equivalent of parking in a disabled space when you don't have a disability.

Yeah, if a traffic warden had already told you there’s no disabled people coming and you won’t get a ticket
We were essentially told we could unofficially strike anyway. People ran back. That’s it
The panic in the group messages that night from our rep trying to make sure everyone was back in was ridiculous.

Exactly.
Do people honestly think RM aren’t going to use this as a gauge of how people are responding to losing pay due to striking? They’ll be looking at those attendance figures, after basically saying we could all have the day off, and be pissing themselves knowing people are that shortsighted and weak. These disputes/strikes are now gonna get dragged out by RM and judging by this, fade away because we’re too scared of losing a few quid here and there .
To be fair to the CWU though I’m pretty sure they would have been wanting most to take the day off but couldn’t say it
