If it’s an official bank holiday you should get the choice of pay or day off another time.

I’m on a weeks holiday, when the funeral is on. Do I get the day back as a holiday or the pay? Or do I get choice?
You get the choice.

From Guardian Online

"Royal Mail has said it will stop its services on the day of the Queen’s funeral.
The date is yet to be confirmed, but earlier on Saturday the new King approved an order to make it a bank holiday.
In a statement, Royal Mail’s chief executive, Simon Thompson, said: “We are proud that over the coming days Royal Mail will play an important role delivering messages of condolence from all around the world to the royal family.
“We want to make our customers aware that services will be suspended on the day of the funeral as people come together to honour Her Majesty, after 70 years of exemplary service to the nation and the Commonwealth.”
The relationship between the monarch and postal service has been in place for more than 500 years, since King Henry VIII appointed the first postmaster."

Does not mention that we wont be working on the 19th Bank Holiday.
Not sure what you mean?

He states we won't be working on the day of the funeral, the day of the funeral is the 19th.

Thank you to Simon for making the right decision and allowing Royal Mail employees time off to watch the funeral at home with a nice cup of tea and some tissues.

false.

Does this bank holiday mean individuals can have the day off work?
This is a matter for discussion between individuals and their employer. There is no statutory entitlement to time off for bank holidays, but employers may include bank holidays as part of a worker’s leave entitlement.

The government cannot interfere in existing contractual arrangements between employers and workers. However, we would expect that many workers will be able to take the day off on the bank holiday. We also expect employers to respond sensitively to requests from workers who wish to take the day of the funeral off work.

check gov.uk

....but correct me if I am wrong. I have not read our contracts, but I assume based on a quick google we are only entitled to the typical 8 day a year bank holiday quota. And therefore assume any extra bank holidays added during the year are up for discussion with your employer.

Not sure what you are saying....

Simon has said we all have the day off for the funeral based on that quote someone posted.

Whether we get paid or not - I don't know. I would assume we will be paid.

actually you are wrong, rm agreements on bank holidays is that they 1st must offer you another that week, if not available (and you are on leave so not possible) then the postie gets to pick either paid at standard rate with no credit or take a credit at their leisure :left:

however on a moral ground as this isn't a regular bank holiday it could be insensitive to demand extra payment, let's be bigger than the scum who run the comedy club and just take the day off, but by all means go for the extra pay if you can't actually book another day off at the time, especially if a reserve who never gets sat or mon off
