I see so many people saying they are cutting off and heading back to finish on time. Im wondering what the actual story is.
We have been told we must judge it before we go out on duty and leave what is necessary to finish on time which puts added stress on. Our manager says im not gonna force you to work over your time but at the same time says if we end up having too much mail out with us then tough we MUST deliver it and not bring anything back.
Is this correct?

No. That's what they want to be able to enforce in some of their new conditions.
Inform them before you go, see what they say. Inform them around midday you're looking at going over, ask what they want you to do with the remaining time (It'll be tracked packets), bring whatever back with a few minutes spare to hand in your keys etc. Ignore threats of suspension, and if they do suspend you, enjoy the free paid time off while the union jumps on them.

The employee and manager should agree a specified time to phone if full completion of delivery
workload within the allocated time proves not to be possible.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

To be honest a lot of people would actually prefer
What your manager is doing rather than telling you to “take it all out and see how you get on”.
In terms of judging it, just play it super safe, and tell him “obviously if I get back early I’ll come see you”.
Some posties are very skilled at timing it so they get back as early as they can but late enough so that the remaining time is not really “worth it”..
