Re: CWU Postal Executive
No one in my office is doing any overtime.
A lot of f/t and p/t staff are looking for side jobs, deliveroo, bar work even buying and selling crap on eBay like a lot of our customers do.
If RM want to waste lots of money to pay managers and agency staff to clear the tracked packets then let them, it’s in our favour.
What is the point of supporting the union one day by going on strike then the next day helping RM succeed by clearing all the tracked packets.
RM doesn’t care about the mail only tracks.
As long as companies like John Lewis etc.. are getting their tracked packets delivered on time then the strikes will go on for a long time and we will all loose more wages.
Only when there’s a backlog of these packets and these companies start talking about taking their contracts elsewhere will RM consider sitting down and talking with the union.
The sooner this happens the better.

Unofficial Action
Hi please share with all reps.
Royal Mail have contacted CWU HQ alleging that an overtime ban is being operated in a Glasgow office. They are claiming the same for offices in KA.
It is essential that this dispute is kept legitimate and they cannot pin unofficial action in any unit.
Normal levels of overtime must be maintained unless by individual choice. No one is forced to work overtime but if you normally do then you should continue.
Any perception of a ban will threaten our legal action and the CWU can be fined by the certification officer and the Courts. The last fine in the North West was £250,000.
Rm are desperate to break this strike. Please don’t help them.

Re: CWU Postal Executive
When I say ‘not doing overtime’, I mean working extra time to help clear the backlog. Not the regular people doing early starts etc.. that’s all continuing as normal.

Re: CWU Postal Executive
There’s no unofficial overtime ban from postal workers in our office. Its not been discussed and planned, it’s an individual decision.
We have agency staff coming in to help clear backlog and sickness walks so not much overtime has been offered anyway.
Morale is so low that everyone has had enough and nobody seems to want to do more than their hours. Never seen people here so fed up with everything.

This is rubbish. What would you say to someone on zero hours?postieblueshirt wrote: ↑03 Sep 2022, 05:21The clue is in the name with this job part time.so you shouldn't be doing this job if it's your only source of income. And I'm afraid any part time worker hoping for full time would be better looking for a full time job in another company because you won't get one with Royal Mail.
It's all most big companies offer now. Zero hours or part time. They are basically full time jobs without the back up of guaranteed hours.
When I was employed, I was told there's as much overtime as I'd like, that's why I took the job.
Now people on more guaranteed hours are telling us we shouldn't take it. Couldn't be more self absorbed and selfish.

Firstly the job is part-time when it suits management.
An example: 24 hours over 5 days is 4h 48m. But your shift never lasts 4h 48m. It is dependent on what round you get put on and in what DO you are sent to. Also, you never know what day off you will get. Unless you get a second job delivering takeaways, having a second job is completely unmanageable.
Not to mention when applying for the job you need to declare if you intend to work a second job, which obviously they would rather you didn't and were more dependent on them.
I'm turning purple!

Re: CWU Postal Executive
thats the point i tried to make if you can live off of 24 hours a week then great BUT i dont know many people who are middle aged with a house and 2 kids who work 24 hours a week. At my age now i wouldnt apply for a job with royal mail because its 24 hours a week.id love to say to my wife im going to leave royal mail and get a wee part time job instead im sure she would be happy with me doing that.
