Overtime Ban
Unofficial Action
Hi please share with all reps.
Royal Mail have contacted CWU HQ alleging that an overtime ban is being operated in a Glasgow office. They are claiming the same for offices in KA.
It is essential that this dispute is kept legitimate and they cannot pin unofficial action in any unit.
Normal levels of overtime must be maintained unless by individual choice. No one is forced to work overtime but if you normally do then you should continue.
Any perception of a ban will threaten our legal action and the CWU can be fined by the certification officer and the Courts. The last fine in the North West was £250,000.
Rm are desperate to break this strike. Please don’t help them.

Re: Overtime Ban
The docket fiends no longer want to grub all excess overtime, as the backlog has hit.......
And now.......
They realise that they will have to earn their
chalk........

Re: Overtime Ban
Read it again pal. It doesn't mention anything about your so called "Docket fiends" refusing overtime. If anything it's encouraging them to!!!

Re: Overtime Ban
Then you don't do it. Overtime is a choice. If people want to maximise their earnings then why not. Personally speaking I don't mind doing overtime but it has to suit me or if I've time to take any. No one is forced to do so, it's a personal choice. Obviously some people take the piss with their wee sneaky deals and anyone who likes a spot of overtime are viewed in this bracket by others as 'Docket Fiends or whatever'. The point is if you've been doing overtime as your normal routine to get a wage then there's no harm in continuing to do so now. And as Woody's post has shown we're being encouraged to continue as to not let the more sneaky RM use something to break our fight!!!!

Re: Overtime Ban
I'm guessing, collectively, a group of people in these office have openly stated they aren't doing the OT they normally do due to us currently being in 'strike mode'? I can see the issue with that.
However, many people have made that choice individually for a host of reasons - the most obvious being the OT offered is less desirable than what they are used to.
Ironically we have several staff who NEVER do OT lining up to work their days off.

Re: Overtime Ban
in hindsight maybe it would've been a better idea to have put on the ballot paper '' strike action, and action just short of strike' this would've stopped any of their underhanded sneaky tricks to stop the strike.

Re: Overtime Ban
when i think of it, basically, they want to change our job because there isn't enough work, but then kick off when people stop doing overtime which shouldn't be there in the first place because apparently there isn't enough work.

I’m guessing this is people refusing to work their days off.

Re: Overtime Ban
With every other strike I've been on with Royal Mail, they've cut off the OT before and after. This is a change.

Re: Overtime Ban
Re the bit in bold, People can continue to work overtime but it is absolutely wrong to tell them that they should do so whether they want to or not. If, by having extra days off due to strikes, individuals decide that having additional days off are beneficial to their physical and mental health then it is irresponsible of the union to tell them that they should go back to working their days off. As long as the union hasn't been organising unofficial industrial action it remains an individual choice whether to work even a minutes overtime.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑04 Sep 2022, 10:57Unofficial Action

Re: Overtime Ban
All the statement means is that if you normally do overtime you should not feel obliged or pressured not to or be under the misapprehension that the union wants you to withdraw from that overtime.
Unfortunately we've seen quite a few misguided people even on this forum calling for members to withdraw from overtime and calling people idiots even for working their normal overtime. Facebook is much worse.

Re: Overtime Ban
Well that is exactly what the statement should have said, whilst also making it clear that people should not feel obliged nor pressured (by management or the union) to work overtime that they don't personally want to.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑04 Sep 2022, 16:51All the statement means is that if you normally do overtime you should not feel obliged or pressured not to or be under the misapprehension that the union wants you to withdraw from that overtime.
