Isn't the frame going to burst with too much post soon?

Yes, they will bring in additional resource tomorrow to try and clear. But it won't - because we will have to work with them. Even though I know its not their fault that they aren't up to speed.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Who is delivering your post? was it just left in the frame? what's the plan for tomorrow?
Nobody is. Doesn't make sense to take it out if u are certain u won’t have time to deliver it. The plan for tomorrow, do some sorting, prep job, workout what I can deliver and leave the rest. Have my breaks and go home.

Two rammed full boxes of sequence, second boxes 75% full, loads of magazines (all this for 1 duty) Worse than a heavy Wednesday. There was definitely two days mail volume. Out at 10.50. 14 specials. Take out 12 loops brought 10 back
Did you inform your line manager before you went out on delivery that you’d be cutting off?
Don’t have to inform about anything. USO is suspended. Knack all they can do if you work your time. Just prioritise specials and tracked first and mail/packets get done if there’s time.

Sounds like you have a manager with some common sense, we don't.

We are wasting time prepping and bagging up things we have no chance of delivering and then clogging the van up with this stuff too, then bringing it back to be thrown back in the frame.

Why are u taking it out if your not going to deliver it, just leave it in the frame. Was a leisurely day today, sorting till late, prepping till late, deliver afew tracked and specials then back on my sofa for 2pm.

Its sometimes hard to judge how far you’ll get, no?

This!

Why do managers make you take it all and then say ‘I’ll pay ya’ when you’ve told them several times that you’re brining loops back and working to time.

Everyone should be working to time. Maximise the affects of the strike.

They can still do you for wilful delay if you don't inform them.

In theory, at least. In practice it's unlikely at the moment.

WTF!! They cannot do you for wilful delay, or anything else, if you start and finish to your actual times, regardless of if you inform them of your intention to cut off, or not.

No one can force you to work beyond your finish time.

We get told to take it all out even if we don’t think we can do it all… I saw the overtime sheet today and it was 3/4 full!!

If you fail to deliver mail and haven't followed the cut-off procedure you can be conducted and even sacked.

You can't just decide how much to deliver without a manager's input.

What if you go over by an hour and a bit and then decide you’ve had enough and the manager has already gone home?

If you're gonna go that far over, you will know before you go out, and should mention it to a manager. Ususally they'll do the old "get all the tracked and specials done" or "see how you get on".

If it's unexpected circumstances like your van conks out, no-one would do you for that.

Seriously am I going mad here? Is no-one even telling a manager if they need to cut-off these days?

Strange people are surprised by having to cut off. Walks must be far easier in certain offices . Our office has been doing this for years . Bulk delivery days in particular. Days of covid was like this constantly . Xmas pressure and Black Friday sales when folk refuse to do overtime . The managers just say “do what you can , make sure tracked and priority items are delivered”
This backlog is no different . If you can’t work over . Explain to your manager that you can’t complete and leave in frame what you think will take you to your time. Eff having to load a full van . Bundles all banded up then have to bring it back and reprep it. That’s just bonkers

The only reason why managers push you into taking out all the delivery out with you is because they know that they don't have any additional resource on that day to take out the work. So they have nothing to lose. But you shouldn't feel pressured into taking all the work. Just tell them that you will give them a call while on delivery at a set time to inform them of where you are on delivery, how much you have left to deliver and more importantly what work they would like you to bring back.

Also remind them if they want you to come back half an early to put all the work back in the frame or would they rather you dump it back on the stand so they can pay someone else instead for putting it back in the frame the next day.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

....and THAT, is why things need to change. This company is an absolute laughing stock now. Tell me one other company where a manager would tell you to take all your work out, and bring most of it back, just so he can report his office clear.

To call it a shambles is too good I'm afraid.
