Schools and keep safes
In our WTL this week we were informed that unless a school had a keepsafe we had to attempt delivery, if there was nowhere to deliver it to we kill it off - no compromise!
Apparently the regulator has said schools should be treated the same as any other firms.
There was a mixed reaction of those that agree and those that don't.. Has anyone else been informed of this, implemented it etc etc???

It's been mentioned in here before but I don't think it's anything to do with the regulator but RM management wanting to make extra money. But the thing is if we start to do that then we should have to do it with everyone (including any business that closes on a Saturday).

Yes! It was the cause of quite a heated argument between me and a manager. When I pointed that very fact out I was told "we should use common sense" - I said "precisely" - if a place is closed it's closed. This was at christmas when I asked for the retentions list for SDs when many firms close for a fortnight as well as schools - we always sent a letter to firms asking for their preference, this year we didn't and the reason was "there has to be a keepsafe" - aye there's common sense alright. This firm is run by idiots.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:It's been mentioned in here before but I don't think it's anything to do with the regulator but RM management wanting to make extra money. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Personally i still stand by what i said in the original thread which was that they should pay.
Spoke to one of my schools just before xmas, they knew nothing about it,my Managers did not mention it at all.
Now how many schools, firms and what nots are there that close for long periods in the UK,and how much revenue is being lost there.
We are being taken for granted and to be honest it's a bit of a piss take.

I totally agree with you Postman, why should we hold their mail for free, we are providing a service, we are not a charity, they want a service let them pay for it.

On all the walks I do the businesses and schools all have a saturday retention listed in the walk log so I just leave the mail on the frame on saturday. I don't know if this is something they have to pay for though.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:It's been mentioned in here before but I don't think it's anything to do with the regulator but RM management wanting to make extra money. We were told to try to deliver it, if there was no access we send/take it back and kill it off - no mention of trying it for a few days which is what I thought was standard procedure..? (didn't bring it up as a question in WTL, cus I forgot about the three day rule!)k979aaa wrote:No it is after three day's only so not weekend's but do not know about (good friday to the tuesday after)!.PhilthyPhil wrote:On all the walks I do the businesses and schools all have a saturday retention listed in the walk log so I just leave the mail on the frame on saturday.
