Or people wanting a nice hand out from the taxpayer and are therefore not able to work many hrs for fear of losing the freebie.
That's the kind of s**t the Daily Mail will convince you is true.
The only reason "in work" benefits are necessary is because wages are so low and hours are inconsistent.

There's no incentive to increase your hours and move away from in work support if 3 months down the line they're going to be cut again.
:Applause
As my mate, who hasn't worked for 15 years always says, "Why would I wanna sweat my backside off for 40 hours a week and have f*** all, when I can sit at home all day and have f*** all"
Exactly, that's why this country is fxxked. Everyone wants a handout and don't take responsibility for themselves. How many take benefits and smoke and go down the pub? Hardworking tax payers paying for other layabouts fags and booze. We've all delivered to the type of areas these folk live. Big TVs, outdoor settees, laughing at us delivering their eBay stuff in shity weather.
Is that you, Mrs T the 2nd?

The people "bleeding the state dry" are the CEOs and shareholders hoarding their multi-million pound bonuses in off shore accounts, syphoning money out of the economy in record levels whilst feigning poverty as an excuse to not pay a decent wage.
Someone getting £1000 a month in universal credit and "going down the pub"/smoking/ "having a big telly" is at least putting money back in the economy.

Why aim your vitriol at those who society has left behind, and not at those who perpetuate the inequality for their own gain?

Usually I wouldn't quote the whole post but in this case I think it's important, you're not really getting it so I'm going to try to keep it simple for you.

If people have nothing they have nothing to lose.

Do you understand how absolutely f***ing dangerous that situation is to your protected little world?

We have moved beyond the point where it was just "benefit scroungers" who had nothing, now working families have nothing

People like you who have bought into the Dailly Mail narrative are running out of scapegoats, the guy next to you working 60hrs a week is now the guy who can't pay his bills and has nothing to lose.

When he says f**k this s**t what are you going to do?

Firstly I don't read the daily mail. Are you trying to say someone working 60hrs would be better off on benefits? During lockdown we were told people had built up savings by not going to the pub, on holiday etc....so why do they feel they shouldn't now use those savings to pay the bills? Why do they feel entitled to the government helping them out? If you smoke and are overweight and drink too much this cost of living crisis is a godsend for you and may be a spur to sort your life out for the better. Sick of 20+stone people on the news saying it's a choice of eating or heating.... really can't they see the irony in it?

You got a pension? Guess what, your a nasty shareholder mate. You wanna make something of your life, go do it . Too many people are scared of hard work and want an easy life. Yes CEO's are on too much money, so are football players and film stars but you don't hear too much talk on the terraces at a football match from the working person about how they're gonna boycott the next match in protest do you? Or people camping out outside their local cinema to protest at how much Tom Cruise is worth. Why is that?
Sick of people tripping out the shareholder line demonising hard working people who are frankly risking hard earned cash on trying to increase their wealth. People seem to think (or be fed a line) that shareholders are all fat multi millionaires when nothing could be further from the truth. Much of the FTSE 100 stock shares are held by normal private investors and pension funds providing a pension from the proceeds for the likes of you no doubt.

In the UK, pension funds are less than 6% (2.4% verifiable,) of all shareholders as of 2018. A drop from 32% in 1990. In the same time foreign shareholders went from holding 12% to 55%.

The reason people protest less about the money earned by footballers and film stars is that people directly benefit from that through entertainment, and paying to go to sport or the cinema is a personal choice

We live in straightened times with probably worse to come, but to generalise that "now working families have nothing" (along apparently with the poor unfortunate benefit scroungers... ) is taking hyperbole to a new level.
A little premature to call for armed insurrection just yet, although the SWP would likely recognise the daft rhetoric.

It’ll be interesting to see how long this country lasts now that middle-class poverty is on the horizon. Businesses will fold left, right and centre. The economy will be a ghost economy. The impending recession will become a depression. And there’s no way out because the Tories are being Tories. They’ll leave the mess for somebody else to deal with.

And as soon as they're out it'll immediately become a MASSIVE PROBLEM that someone else has to fix

I'm a Shareholder (like many Posties that haven't sold their shares yet), and I realise that the Pension Companies that willl pay my Pension are also shareholders. But I do find it amusing Rambo that you're flying to the defence of the Hard Working Shareholder. :left:

Perhaps I've never planned that far ahead but buying shares isn't that very high up my priority list. I'm sure if it was I wouldn't be "Risking" my hard earned cash, I thought the idea was that you have to be willing to lose it ... bit like gambling? :cuppa

Heard on the News that they're concerned people earning up to £45K will also need finacial help. Considering the average National Wage is only £30K that's worrying

Although it did explain why people on "certain existing benefits" always seem to get prompt assistance. They're already on "The System" so it's easier to process any payments. For the rest of us that aren't on "The System" it would take longer. :hmmmm

I would have thought though that HMRC have records of exactly how much the rest of us earn, so it shouldn't be THAT hard? :cuppa

Most of those "system" benefits come with caveats and qualifiers, like, caring, living alone, living with disabilities, unable to work, limited work, widowed, OAP etc, which isn't really part of HRMCs remit.

I don't think you're completely wrong, but I suspect it's easier to make those who need partial, variable help, apply and stuff, compared to those where the details are already pretty much nailed. ("Doesn't work, lives alone, has a broken back, cannot work, is a widow, pensioner" vs "Has 3 children, partner cannot work and requires care, has variable income due to seasonal self employment"...). What you earn doesn't always limit what you can claim, for example DSA / DLA / PIP (Disability payments) aren't' really tied to earnings, but do affect your actual cash.
