You mean like most other jobs wont happen. Hope we get a decent pay rise first thats easily settled if the company want it, then the union negotiate on the other changes maybe a one off payment for losing allowances, i think if the changes are watered down it could be settled we are all better off talking striking is a lose lose.

Re: Why no work to rule?
My view is that the union hasn't considered other forms of industrial action - just gone for the strike (which should be a last resort). There are a number of things that we could do which would hit the RM finances without costing members their days pay. Imagine the chaos and financial impact if we continued to deliver post and parcels yet refused to take PDAs out with us! The premium products that RM are so keen on would become worthless! This kind of action would be sustainable and could go on for ages. Plus we would continue to be paid. There are other forms of industrial action other than striking - shame the union hasn't explored these.

You can't do that.Imagine the chaos and financial impact if we continued to deliver post and parcels yet refused to take PDAs out with us!
It would be refusing a reasonable request and would lead to suspension which would lead to unofficial industrial action.

If Ward and Pullinger read this post they'll just look to the stars in disbelief and who could blame them. You leave your PDA, a manager requests you take it. You refuse, you're suspended for failing to comply with a reasonable request. Your rep cannot defend the indefensible.
Unbelievable.

Part-timers don't do overtime because they love the place, they do it to try & bump their hours up & get as close to a full-time wage as possible.thedonkey wrote: ↑23 Aug 2022, 16:32We cannot fold during this period of pay and terms talk. With the cost of greed crisis and inflation so high for many of us losing pay on strike days will cause much hardship, but it is one that we must endure for long term and our families.
Is there an explanation as to why the union has not taken the option of working to rule? If we all committed to working our hours only and not doing overtime or schedule attendance. A week of working to rule would soon cause issues for RM and us employees would not loose a day's pay on strike days.
Wouldn't work or should I say it wouldn't be fair as you'd basically be asking the part-timers to make the most sacrifice as they do most of the OT.. and then there are people who do no OT at all who it would have no impact on.
An actual strike day has a more balanced impact as it effects everyone due in on that day.

If the union instructed members not to take out PDA's then colleagues would be protected in the same way as when we have unauthorised absence (strike days). I actually wrote to Terry Pullinger. Twice (Didn't bother to reply to my first email). I eventually got fobbed off with one of his policy advisers who was deeply condescending and disinterested in anything I had to say. Let's just say that I'm becoming less of a fan of the negotiating team.priority102 wrote: ↑25 Aug 2022, 21:50PAClark543 wrote: ↑25 Aug 2022, 19:12My view is that the union hasn't considered other forms of industrial action - just gone for the strike (which should be a last resort). Think it will have to come to that.
Start on time, finish on time, take your breaks, and inbetween, do whatever the manager wants you to do.
No overtime, no staying out beyond your time.
We are now entering autumn.
Royal Mail would be in a state of absolute chaos before black Wednesday was even on the horizon.

Industrial action doesn't work like that.
You can't just decide not to do certain parts of your contractual obligations and expect to still remain on pay and the union could not ballot on industrial action based on it.
It's quite frankly nonsense mate.

In my office it's mostly the full timers that do the overtime. There are many Full Timers that must do 55+ hour weeks.ThatsNotPlumb wrote: ↑25 Aug 2022, 23:13

I have seen full timers doing ridiculous overtime this week. It doesn't make sense to me why you would work your butt off on a week in which we have a strike day. Let the company suffer. Do the overtime to make up for the strikes in the weeks before the strikes and the weeks after.
No doubt tomorrow we'll have Posties taking out overtime. Starting early. Working for free through their breaks. Meanwhile the company you work for is seemingly planning on turning the business into a gig economy, or at the very least wanting to pay you 8% less than they should be whilst making your terms and conditions worse.

If the same holds true in many offices, it wouldn't surprise me to see RM try and force all FT back to being 4ohrs per week, which in effect would be a pay cut

The last thing the business wants to do is add more core hours to the operation.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑26 Aug 2022, 12:25If the same holds true in many offices, it wouldn't surprise me to see RM try and force all FT back to being 4ohrs per week, which in effect would be a pay cut
