RMG DISPUTE - CWU OFFERS FOR FRESH TALKS
RMG DISPUTE – CWU OFFERS FOR FRESH TALKS
The purpose of this LTB is to explain the offers the union has made to the company for talks at the highest level.
We initially wrote to the Chair and CEO of the company on the 18th August, saying it was time to escalate talks and that CWU were willing to explore all possibilities to find solutions to our pay and change disputes, in the interests of our members, the customers and the company. This offer was made a full week before the strike action that will take place tomorrow, Friday 26th August.
The CEO wrote to the union on the 19th August and rejected our offer. He made it clear that the only basis for a meeting would be for him to tell us what the financial situation was within the company.
The CEO subsequently posted on RM Workplace that the union had refused to meet for talks. This was never the case and is just another example of the lack of honesty, transparency and integrity in the way that Royal Mail have conducted themselves over the last six months.
The union has now reiterated our offer for fresh talks in a further letter to the Chair and CEO, a copy of which is attached. The union’s position is set out clearly in the letter and should be conveyed to all our members in all workplaces.
You will see from the letter that the union is also now seeking assurances from the Board on their position over the future of the USO, whether or not they are involved in discussions on a takeover bid and/or plan to sell off GLS, which in our view makes no commercial sense.
These are important points to raise with the Board because as Royal Mail’s position becomes increasingly hostile – it appears to us that their real motives may well be about to be exposed.
We will keep you informed of developments and in the meantime it is crucial we now prepare for tomorrow’s strike action, which we know will be solidly supported across the UK.
Yours sincerely

You do all realise they want you to strike so that any pay award above the current 2% is either partly or fully self paid for. Ie any rise you get will be paid for out of the money you would have earnt had you not been on strike.

Concessions will have to be given by the CWU, that I guess was always going to be the case. Let’s hope they are massively watered down from the original ridiculous proposals from RM.

Royal Mail plc ("Royal Mail")
VESA EQUITY INVESTMENT S.à r.l. ("VESA"): National Security and Investment Act 2021 ("NSI Act")
Royal Mail has received notification from the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy ("Secretary of State") that he reasonably suspects that arrangements are in progress or contemplation which, if carried into effect, will result in VESA increasing its shareholding in Royal Mail from 25% or less to more than 25%.
The Secretary of State has notified Royal Mail that such a step would constitute a trigger event under the NSI Act and that he is exercising his call-in power under section 1 of the NSI Act.
Royal Mail will fully cooperate with this review and a further announcement will be made as and when appropriate.
Vesa's most recent notification to Royal Mail in relation to its holding, as disclosed to the market on 19 July 2022, indicated that Vesa held just over 22% of the total voting rights in Royal Mail at that time.

Anyone like to expand on what this actually means? I presume it's some kind of Government Investigation into what's going on with Royal Mail Shares? TBH I'd have thought the Tories would be trying to hush it up.
The timing looks pretty dodgy

Re: RMG DISPUTE – CWU OFFERS FOR FRESH TALKS
VESA is the largest shareholder in Royal mail. They own 22% of the company.
The Secretary of State has informed RM that they believe VESA (Kretinsky) is likely to increase his shareholding to above 25%.
It doesn't say how much above 25%.
30% triggers a takeover.
Is it in the national interest for a foreign national to own Royal Mail? That is for the Secretary of State to decide.
If anyone thinks this is still about later starts they need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Share price edging up. Shorts position down.
The market is happy with the news.

Sounds a bit ominous about the talks getting anywhere soon. Makes you wonder what Royal Mail have up their sleeves. Are we going to be be split and have fire and rehire terms given to us.It could get very messy over the next few weeks and could be a case of who blinks first.

Our strike will have no bearing on RM breaking up the company. Their plans have been made well in advance and in my opinion they have engineered this dispute to have a scapegoat for the oncoming flak they will receiveroman wrote: ↑25 Aug 2022, 19:31Sounds a bit ominous about the talks getting anywhere soon. It all seems very well orchestrated, just like a game of chess. Unfortunately we the workers are not even pawns on the board, merely the draught pieces that are left in the box whilst the chess game runs it's course.
