Fake ID man must hand over savings after stealing mail

A postal worker who used a fake identity to obtain work in Northampton and then started stealing mail must give up all his savings or face more time in prison.
Mohammed Fazaldin, aged 30, was caught stealing letters from Royal Mail's main sorting depot at Crick after getting work under a false name and identity.

The political refugee from Somalia was jailed for 16 months at Northampton Crown Court in June last year and is due for release within the next two months.

However, he must now have his Â£4,000 savings seized or face 70 more days in prison after Judge Charles Wide QC made the confiscation order yesterday.

The court heard he had been employed under the false name, earning Â£33,497 wages, and the prosecution said he has Â£30,000 assets yet he claimed to have only a small amount of cash.

Fazaldin, of Coronation Road, Coventry, previously claimed to have been a victim of identity fraud but changed his story to admit obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception and the theft of a single letter, and on a second occasion up to 12 letters from the sorting office.

Joe Spicer, prosecuting, said the father-of-two submitted his own picture as part of his employment application, but used the name Talim Karim while working from November 2003 to March 2005.

He said: "He was seen on two occasions in possession of mail which the prosecution says was stolen from the Post Office.

"His locker at the sorting office was searched and yet more items of post were found which he was not supposed to have."

Officers also found Royal Mail high-visibility jackets, shirts and caps at his home which was raided in March 2005.

Mr Spicer said: "More pertinently, police recovered bank statements in the name of Karim and all the post which had been sent to Karim by Royal Mail in his role as an employee. Photo evidence with his application form and security card show Mr Karim and Fazaldin are one and the same perso

That's nearly Â£600/week

I suppose if he was stealing mail then I'm not surprised he'd be stealing docket

typical immigrants.ruining our country.shame we cant shift our workload over to a third world country though.

What is a typical immigrant ? . Thats like saying what is a typical woman, what is a typical man, what is a typical English National. No one whatever label you care to pin to them is typical. Each and every person has their foibles and strengths what we should do is use peoples strengths and within reason forgive their foibles or at least find ways to minimise the impact of them.

In the case of criminals from overseas, yes I think we should expel them within reason, however as this guy comes from Somalia the case for expelling him would have to be very strong.

It happened in a Lancashire Zoo , she'd previously been sacked ALLEGEDLY at W*** C*** , came back under a assumed name , people knew her from there but they weren't grasses when RM moved to a zoo nearer the Motorway junctions , deservedly got made up to Acting , far too good for that S***hole & cr** culture , then RM came under fire for a ram raid on the locker & p*** poor security , A Area Manager came in for a meeting , recognized her as he'd sacked her years before , told her to empty her locker and was frogmarched to the bus stop .

The Local Rag splashed it over their front page , she went into retail , seen her going to night college after work instead of sitting on her a**e watching Corrie , Eastenders etc trying to better herself . Good on her , she was AG working to 2 and 5 in the morning trying to make a living . Should she be tarred with that right wing populist , dog-whistle brush ? These are the same people that go on Comment on this and say sack the posties , ban unions and bring hard working immigrants in !

There are people who can't read /sort people have taken tests /induction for others but that's more to do with RM's Braindead , Regimented ineptness in handling things .

You will get plenty of this sort of thing , happened in previous nationalized industries , the drip , drip effect as a case for privatisation , any little thing to be blown up . That Right Wing Postal Site has ran that story , they rely on ads from Parcel Firms /Couriers , it's no coincidence .
