Re: Are there any talks scheduled?
I think its not illegal, tricky if you wanna stay within the golden rules, but not impossible, but i think its high time to forget the rules, let's be under no illusions this is about breaking the unions all unions, we're fighting for the right to have collective industrial action, the laws are deliberately grey when it comes to strikes and the punishment are basically taking the unions money, sorry when comes to the very existence of unions to take effective action then what's the point of the.union having that money, we need to show we're willing to have a general strike and let them do their worst, remember their aim is to destroy any effective trade unionism, it's a fight to the death that they started, this isn't end with a chat and agreement to all be nice and play by the rules, this is gonna get messy and the legalities of a general strike are a moot point when comes to a dirty fight which this will become under sunak or truss and maybe even starmerolilew wrote: ↑21 Aug 2022, 22:18People keep talking about calling a general strike. I'm pretty sure that this is another of the rules the Tories brought in. A general strike is illegal. It needs to be done stealthily. Unions can call strikes at the same time as each other but a general strike cannot be called.

I haven't read that article, but I'm thinking along the same lines. If the shares are driven down enough he will snap up those he can and force a hostile take over. The company could be delisted.

Re: Are there any talks scheduled?
I am out of my depth here but I believe Mr Kretinsky acquired his (roughly) 20% stake in Royal Mail paying far more than the current £2.60.
If he was to attempt a hostile takeover of the business by acquiring another (roughly) 10% he would have to pay the average of the price he paid for the shares (or something like that)
The separation of Royal Mail and GLS has been on the cards for some time anyway.
So I don't think he would benefit from deliberately attempting to drive down the share price.
He could just phone Si (when he is back from his long weekend) and tell him what to do.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Humans need 3 basic things to survive in life - sustenance, warmth and shelter. Under Tory rule these things are being slowly denied to them and basic rights are being eroded away by legislation. In the developing scenario over this winter it won't matter if a general strike is legal or illegal people will be forced to take matters into their own hands whether they are TU members or not. I hope that any action will result in the demise of the Tory party for ever now that have run this country into the ground.

Re: Are there any talks scheduled?
Inflation now predicted to hit 18% next year..... so 18% pay rise please.....
Seriously... I'd take a 6% pay rise and a £2,000 lump sum.
OUR CUSTOMERS WANT A 7 DAY SERVICE, GUYS!!!!
yet we have been understaffed for over a year and mail isn't going out on our day off....if you want us to run a 7 day service at least employ the correct numbers of staff to be able to do so.
Simon - make it make sense.

If royal mail wants it to drag on, fine it will soon be Christmas! All we are asking for is a fair payrise. And no reduction in our current employment terms.

Agreed, I think the Union has overplayed it’s hand in calling 4 strike days in such a short period.
I expected one or two to start with, then a space for more pointless negotiation (because neither side are willing or can move).
Four days off the bat is a lot when I think many feel that RM are unlikely to move much from their position.

We all knew what would happen to us once we were privatised, what was seen is now happening, we are nothing but a cashspit for the leeches to bleed dry. Until the shares are worthless and the investors realise they are going to get their fingers burned we are not important.

The current General Secretary is Frances O'Grady.
