You really want a quarter of your members to say that they intend to go in (even though they won't) and consequently RM will have to open the DO , only for nobody to actually turn up.
That was my original thought .... cost them money to open the office and make it worthwhile to have a picket line (I think it would rather take the wind out of our sails if we turn up t picket a locked gate)? :hmmmm

I agree we shouldn't be telling the manager if we plan to come in or not.... however I REALLY like the idea that they'd have to haul their Fat Asses around a Delivery even if it's only for one day! :cuppa

Spoke to my Area Rep this morning, and he wasn't aware of this '20/25% willing to work, open the DO' thing.

Why aren't the union aware of this? Five days away from a strike and I'm informing an Area Rep?!?

Come on Branches, it's not right that a unit rep is informing Area Reps on this kind of thing.
I expect it's because it's an RM thing, decided between Higher Management. They've got no reason to inform us, or the CWU, some Managers pass on these rumours, others are more tight lipped. :cuppa

carey just happens our late rep is off on leave next 3 weeks as is area rep an div rep🙄🙄

They should all have deputies that cover for them when they're on leave. Our Div Rep always informs everyone when he's on leave and who his deputy is. I would think it's just bad timing, not a conspiracy theory? :hmmmm

What's more worrying is ... How the hell do they manage to get 3 weeks off in one go, we're pushed to get 2 weeks together! :cuppa

Guess that's why many of the managers have put in for VR? They know this company will stop at nothing at dropping all their terms and cons. They have already got rid of the DOMs and plan to get rid of more managers. The Royal Mail board see all their staff (both managers and Postie's) as expendable and a huge cost burden on the balance sheet
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Wrong as written and wrong if you meant to write
"Just be aware its illegal to picket without a rep present."

You can have a picket and if the rep is present they are in charge. But if no representative is present, anyone can be in charge of the picket line.

This is why people distrust you, you post stuff without confirming it and sometimes it's complete rubbish so your "street cred" suffers. In this particular case all you had to do was check a page on RMC https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... 7&t=106074 or https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... keting.pdf
Appointment of picket supervisor under section 220A of the 1992 Act
12.Where a trade union either organises the picketing or encourages its
members to take part in picketing, the union must appoint a picket
supervisor who is either a trade union official or other member of that
union.

Cheers for the reply. Yeah, I'll be speaking to them tomorrow so will ask about nominating a deputy.

It's the 'lawful' bit I'm mindful of. It'd be just my luck something happens or the police turn up while I've nipped off for a pee.
The picketing guidelines state that they must be reasonably close by and contactable. Going to the toilet and returning is going to be plenty close enough.

The trouble with the ignore list is you still see their post if someone quotes it.
