CWU Social Media PR
I'm behind the Union 100%
The vast majority of the time they are incredibly professional, knowledgeable & certainly on our side.
However I think they need to look at the PR side of their social media accounts before it backfires.
They have pointed out recently that individuals must be careful what they post on social media, as disciplinary action is a possible consequence.
Yet whoever is running the PR side of social media for the CWU don't seem to realise they could be stoking an unnecessary fire.
None of this should detract from the very serious issues we are facing, but why take the risk.
None of us actually want to strike and lose money but we realise we have no choice.
However this isn't a game and while emotions are certainly high, they should remain tempered and balanced.
Let the industrial action do the talking and force meaningful negotiations.

I believe it was official, although I'd be glad to be corrected.

Re: CWU Social Media PR
Couldn't agree more. I've heard about the memes they're posting online, though I have no interest in following them on social media. I've seen posters they've put up in our office, some in view of the public, saying nothing but the words: "They're taking the piss!"
I find it distasteful and amateurish. I think they're conducting themselves as if this were playground politics. It's fairly petty and puerile, while ultimately serving only to undermine the cause and the message.
They need to remember that they're paid to represent us. We need and expect professional representation, and presently they're falling far short of that.

We have to stay professional. In previous ballots Royal Mail have gone to great lengths to take the union to court to stop strike action.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022, 22:53When you have Simon pouring petrol on the fire it’s to be expected. This is a very serious issue. We have no choice but to strike.
But it needs to be done properly surely.

These issues are so incredibly serious, that peoples mental health is affected because of the financial and life consequences of the proposed changes.
It is so incredibly serious that for me, seeing jokes and memes don't seem appropriate.
Many people I am sure can absorb losing a few weeks wages, but for many people this is incredibly problematic.
It isn't something they feel like joking about.
But between a rock and a hard place we are in.
I'm quite sure the representative of the PR side of the social media account/s for the union has absolutely nothing to do with the actual negotiations.
However everybody can see those posts.
We need a meaningful result.
Many of us are at our wits end with this and aren't in the mood for social media laughs.

Yes obviously your right, we are being lowered to that level. It’s a sad state of affairs.aiden01 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022, 23:00But why follow simons example fs.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022, 22:53When you have Simon pouring petrol on the fire it’s to be expected. Being disciplined for inappropriate social media posts is serious..
Losing significant amounts of money through striking is serious.
Having our pay, & terms and conditions torn to pieces is serious.

I’m sure that the public will see far worse on their own social media. The only ones likely to be offended have already made their views known on the Daily Mail, Telegraph, The Express and The Suneinastronaut wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022, 22:56I've seen posters they've put up in our office, some in view of the public, saying nothing but the words: "They're taking the piss!"

CWU coming across as very unprofessional to me , Royal Mail not much better but I’d rather the CWU didn’t stoop so low personally.

Re: CWU Social Media PR
It's not about who might be offended. It's us who ought to be offended. It's a matter of professionalism and image. It looks, at least to me, like children squabbling. It's adults resorting to mud-slinging, name calling and childish mockery while also at least nominally claiming to represent over 100,000 others in a professional capacity. Those who are being represented may not wish to have their voice debased in that way.pinstripe wrote: ↑20 Aug 2022, 06:21I’m sure that the public will see far worse on their own social media.
