They’re not thinking clearly - you want your day off as a non-strike day so that it counts as overtime and goes towards your holiday pay total 😉
??

So you have a normal (non-strike) working day off, and because you're legally striking (on the Friday) you also lose a days pay?
Sorry I must be being thick, how does that gain you OT (towards your holiday pay)?
He’s talking about working his day off, must be so normal to him that it goes without saying
Aah thanks for that, got it now. I'd rather have my day off thanks very much Royal Mail.

We had managers her asking staff to swap days off next week so they did not lose money striking
According to the RM WTLL that POSTMAN has posted here (RM WTLL, paragraph 1, second bullet point):

https://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communi ... 7&t=106174

swapping rest days is not allowed (doesn't specify whether the swap is to RM or posties advantage).

We told this morning they’re not swapping rest days and not allowing people to work their day off if unusual to do so

Another will be no sick pay for those that go sick on the day of the strike.
That's a pretty standard procedure.
If it's genuine go see your doctor and get a line, that gives your rep a chance to fight it.
If it's not genuine to be honest I'm just gonna laugh at you for being so stupid.

I was told by the Area Rep that the reason DOMs are trying to find out how many of their staff are striking is because they want to keep their own DOs OPEN.

Apparently if there's likely to be 25% of their staff turning up for work they can try and run some kind of reduced service. The main advantage for the Managers is they can continue to sit on their Fat Asses in their office. If their DO is closed they'll have to go to the nearest parcel hub and actually do some work! :Boo hoo!

Oh Dear .. Too Bad ... Never Mind! :cuppa

I’ve been given Friday off as my only day off ( I’m working Sunday) so I’ll be getting another day off. We are pretty under staffed but I’m entitled to two days off.

Surely nobody should be confirming to managers whether they will or won't be on strike. We shouldn't be making it easier for them to plan anything.
"I'll decide whether I'm going to strike 5 minutes before my shift is due to start" would be my reply.

I've been told by the COM that the threshold is 20% willing to work and the DO opens. Fortunately our office is 100% out.

You really want a quarter of your members to say that they intend to go in (even though they won't) and consequently RM will have to open the DO , only for nobody to actually turn up.

Update on this.

Spoke to my Area Rep this morning, and he wasn't aware of this '20/25% willing to work, open the DO' thing.

Why aren't the union aware of this? Five days away from a strike and I'm informing an Area Rep?!?

Come on Branches, it's not right that a unit rep is informing Area Reps on this kind of thing.

Why are you informing your Area Rep your DO could open?

Perhaps they are aware of it but have no wish for DO's to open?

It’s weird af but true that if everyone who was striking said they weren’t striking and changed their mind last minute, FAR more disruption would ensue..

My DO IS NOT going to open.

The area rep was not aware of the 20% criteria for opening a DO.

I'm aghast at the fact that I had to phone my area rep and tell him the situation.

This is why I quit the rep job the first time around. The guys we rely on for help aren't even aware of the full picture.

Not throwing shade on area reps, they work their arses off for the CWU. I'm just questioning how a unit rep can find out this stuff before Area reps, or Divvy reps, or HQ.
