Electric Van's failing

Post by roadrunner bill »

Having brought in all these new electric Van's, had 2 that have failed already.. they wont charge... they are about 2 months old...

Also heard batteries on them only last 2 to 3 years..

Might prove very costly that to royal mail..

They have to be seen fighting the next “war” put before us, that of carbon.

Hopefully us humans make the cut…

Out of curiousity, which models are failing? We were told we got 3 different types as a trial run, and whichever proved most reliable would be rolled out in other depots...
With the diesel prices, I imagine our depot would still break even if a few electrics broke

Roadrunner.

Could it be the charging points that are failing and not the van ?

We also have to run a key fob over the screen at the top of the charging point to get acceptance to allow charging to commence.
I always plug in and check the dashboard first.

A fully charged Mercedes is about 105 miles of range.
Peugeot more like 125 miles of range.

Nissans are my favourite of the 3 we have... Mercs drain WAY quicker than they say, especially if you turn them on and off multiple times for LATs etc. We have the big Mercedes that claim to do 80 miles but it's closer to 45. Did an 8 mile local route yesterday in one and it went from 63 miles remaining to 38. Driving sensibly and trying to brake charge etc...
The Nissans are smaller but you can do 20 odd miles on them and if you let them roll down hills etc, you can get them back with only 3 miles of juice used

Not that we'd be getting any any time soon, not enough space in yard for vans let alone charging points but, would that be good for a 60 mile rural stopping and starting about 90 times then doing pkts round town for a couple of hrs, in winter when it's cold and the heater and lights are on for much of the shift? Wouldn't you get a couple of days out of it if you couldn't get hooked up to a charger when you got back (likely). ? I'll specify one of those if we ever get em.

Ours take 5-7 hours, so just plug them in they're fully charged when we come into work the next day.

It is not the van's failing or the workers but the leadership at the top wrong decisions waste of money and confrontation by idiots who are party donors to the conservatives. In the hope of the 1000 year empire of conservatism well that started well then a lame duck government who put a lame duck CEO of RM wasting money on things that did not need wasting on!
