What if parcel collection takes off big time, and you end up with 40-50 a day, and you have to box them all up yourself at the door. Do you think they will accommodate duties for it? Or just lump them on us and expect everything else done too. It would take a full shift just to do it, probably longer.
Also:
Do your van checks.
Make sure to take your lapsing.
tracked/Specials.
parcels.
Make sure you knock on all neighbours doors (as Simon requests 1st time delivery  )
Postboxes.
And ALL the mail.
…
But remember, you’re underworked and overpaid.

If these clowns carry on, they will never stop shovelling more work onto us until it gets to a point where we have more work to do than there are hours in the day…

That’s the problem.
Don’t forget the “commit to deliver”. The ways they want things to go, you’ll still be on yesterdays delivery when you’re late starting todays.

These clueless big business types are obsessed with bloody netflix.

Quite a few Tories are always wanging on about it too, as a business model to aspire to.

Is someone going to tell them it's loss-making, losing customers like there's no tomorrow, and is rapidly heading down the pan?

Failures, chancers, picked-last-for-sports sociopaths, inadequates and thickos, the lot of them.

Ok, our new finish time will be 6pm, it's 5.45pm, December, pitch dark, been pissing down all day and I've got a collection from no.3. They're cooking tea and the kids in the bath. Can I pack this in your hall please?
Nope, we're a bit busy.
So on top of the HCT by torchlight
Yeh we've got plenty of time for that.

Boxing up in the rain at 8pm in December. What could go wrong.
...and of course like everything at that time of the year...you'll get an increase in doing such things. This is what you get when an office-based marketing loon gets to be in charge of a job he's never actually done. He sees the fact that we deliver to virtually ever doorstop in the UK as some crazy opportunity to generate sales. We'll be door knocking soon, selling stuff nothing to do with Royal Mail. Remember Mail is not their priority anymore.

Team - no printer no problem - and soon - no packaging no problem…. — feeling happy
I imagine it will be a fold flat box in a few sizes - there is a 100 million+ items per annum market potential here - where things are dropped off - we can switch them to an on-line sale - collect by us at the door - this is a significant game changer - this is our Netflix service - when everyone else is renting DVDs…concept in research - trials later in the year….
Can't really see this working. Apart from the practicalities which seem to make it a non starter from the get go, we surely open ourselves up to accusations of theft and possible insurance claims for "damaged" items. And where does he get these market size potential numbers from - oh hang on, I think I know  :chuckle

Correct me if I'm wrong but when I started in the early 2000's we were told we couldn't go inside a customers house with our bags because it could look to other customers we were "stealing" items behind closed doors. So a security issue.

How the hell does he think OPG's are going to package items outside in wind, rain, sleet and snow?

Maybe he'll bring back the idea of reading meters as well!

Clueless, incompetent and completely removed from what the job actually entails.

I've recently started getting a few nightmares with the stickers. I've got a few Old Biddies that are NOT IT savvy! :arrrghhh

Admitedly normaly you can knock on the door (more commonly collect from safeplace)..... put the sticker on the parcel... scan it and disappear without too much impact on your timings. :thumbup

When you turn up at these Old Gals Bungalows they've got 3 or 4 parcels..... then they can't remember which parcel needs which sticker. one had mixed up the weights online and had several stickers for the same parcel, "That's OK dear I cancelled the wrong weight" Oh no you didn't because I've got them both here  I tried to cancel one of them on the PDA but it went off into menus about contacting the DOM because of a collection failure FFS! So I just gave them both to her and told her to save it for her next parcel. :angel

Meanwhile she's chatting away playing pass the parcel and trying to figure out which sticker to use. Finally I escape only to bring the bloody parcel back a couple of days later RTS Addressee Not Known.... and another Bloody Sticker! :arrrghhh Well Done Simon Good Idea, perhaps it's a scheme to make OAPs pay three times to deliver one parcel ? :cuppa

This reminds me that the failed WCM (World Class Mail) or what ever it was called. In my old office, we had this WCM guy come in, who was on around £40k, spent most of the morning just watching us with this phone, stop watch and clipboard, doing the IPS and prep etc. He recommended a whole bunch of things, changed how we worked, for example, once the IPS frame needed to emptied, a porter would grab the mail and take to the frame, but instead of walking to the frame placing the tray down ready to be sorted, he recommended that we walk to the frame and place the tray on the left hand side, and not on the right side of the frame, so we would not be in the way of throwing off. He called us to have a huddle and tell us of this recommendations and savings, he said to have saved the office on average of 13 seconds per task, with a straight face. Needless to say the office burst out with laughter, lol.

For all the criticism in this thread, this is the sort of stuff the union want to protect jobs as mail volumes decrease
