Is your office picketing ?

Post by Seagull1983 »

So we have 4 days of strikes. I’m really struggling to get people in my office to picket. I’ve suggested doing it for 2 hours just so general public can see we care and also get (hopefully) a picture in the newspaper outlining the reasons we are striking.

I’m really shocked by the apathy.

Do staff have to attend there offices on the strike days or can they “just gonna stay in bed” ?

I did hear, but not confirmed there should be a minimum of six on a picket line.

All staying in bed apparently, infact i think only 25% of the office will actually strike, the rest will go into work

Of course they can stay in bed if they want to.
I thought the CWU had been inundated by people volunteering to be picket line stewards in the absence of any rep in the office?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

We’ll have a big picket at SK DO👍👍 Don’t think there will be many strikebreakers.

Do I have to go on the picket line?
No doubt some from your office will do-does not hurt to go down and be with the gang-it's not a day off to go gallivanting.

My manager says we can't have more than 6 on a picket line.
The Code of Practice on picketing says usually there should be no more than 6 people outside an entrance to a workplace.
While this is true it has always been quite rare for managers to enforce this-it obviously can happen-the rep should be able to guide you-see the link above 'Mass picketing' section.https://www.gov.uk/industrial-action-st ... -picketing

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I voted for a strike and I will definitely be striking but the loss of 4 days pay is going to be a huge burden on my family and I. Its causing me quite a big of anxiety :thumbdown

Is there any chance of us getting a good deal & all strikes being called off?... or is that just wishful thinking!!? :silenced

I see quite a difference between the subs and city DO's. While the city seems motivated, the subs are less so. Some were planning just to work until they found out they'd be closed. Comments in cloud, " well it doesn't have anything to do with me :so there, I really need the money :cry , it doesn't really suit my plans :hmmmm , and might as well just clear the office no one else will do it. :no no "

I feel for some but others are their own worse enemies. Not one said I accept the pay rise.

Big burden on all of us but what is the alternative. no point in striking once a month or whatever.

Saying you'll strike and actually doing it are two completely different things

In my office, about 70 % are going out me included. But people who are going out are saying they can't afford to loose 4 days pay ( as they say nearly a weeks wage ) . So it will be interesting to see how many actually go out

I understand peoples concerns over the financial impact of losing pay but if RM get their way how will you cope when you’re on Statuary sick pay (£92 p.w)??? If losing a few days pay is going to put you into financial ruin wait until your next energy bill comes through ☹️☹️☹️

I have a mortgage and 3 kids but for me this is a battle we all can’t afford to lose. The only way we can win is by sticking together and supporting our union 100%. Expecting others to fight for your future is not acceptable it’s time for everyone to stand up and be counted.✊✊✊
