Going sick on strike days
One of the four strike days is my day off anyway so if i was "sick" on one of the other ones I'd only lose two days money in all. Course, this wouldn't work if you're already on an absence sticky wicket.

Re: Going sick on strike days
And the point you are making? If you go sick when you are not, you would be up for dismissal if caught out. Not a very wise move to make, if you are that hard up, cross the picket line and go in.

Re: Going sick on strike days
Well it would be obvious if enough of us did it. Also they'd have to pay us all. (PS I'm not skint and don't intend doing it. Just a thought).

Re: Going sick on strike days
In my experience, anybody who goes sick before strike days are treated like a pariah by the managers, genuine or not.
Whoever does go sick in the near future, id advise them to go to the doctors and make sure you are careful in social settings!

And you wonder why one of the things they want to change is the sick pay. It's people like you that ruins it for genuine people.deristrong wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 15:43One of the four strike days is my day off anyway so if i was "sick" on one of the other ones I'd only lose two days money in all. If you go sick on the day of industrial action you are counted as ‘available to work’ by RM - & considered to be a strike breaker
“Shorts,in this weather?!”
“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”
“What’s she been ordering now?”

Re: Going sick on strike days
I have more respect for those who choose to break the strike and work than those who choose to go sick during a strike so they dont lose pay
Frankly, you should be ashamed to even be considering it.
Striking is as much about sacrifice as it is about withdrawing your labour. Its showing that the issue is so important that you are prepared to lose a days pay over the issue.
What you are proposing is sneaky, underhand, cowardly and trust me everyone who is on strike will know what you have done and will not look too kindly on it.
In short - dont do it!

If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

During the last strike I was on long term sick after an operation.deristrong wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 15:43One of the four strike days is my day off anyway so if i was "sick" on one of the other ones I'd only lose two days money in all. I had pay deducted for the strike days as it was deemed that had I been well I would have been on strike.

Some junior clerk somewhere can't just make the easy assumption that you would have been on strike and therefore lose a day's pay.
You can't withdraw your labour if RM considers you're not fit enough to attend in the first place.

Re: Going sick on strike days
You would have thought that considering the current toxic position between the workforce and senior management you would have kept yourself squeaky clean and not handed a possible disciplinary/sacking on a plate to them?
Going sick at that particular time will stand out like a sore thumb, do it at your peril.

We are in a major dispute, possible strike action and your thinking of ways to nick a days money.Cross the picket line if you need a few quid. Can not believe someone has even posted that thought.
