Striking and Nightshifts/Shifts that Span Midnight
What is the procedure if your rostered shift spans midnight at the start or end of the day of industrial action?
For example, if you work 2200-0600 are you expected to work the first two hours then “down tools”, and/or recommence work at midnight at the end of the strike day?
Or do you strike for the entire shift if your duty starts the night before strike day, or the night of the strike day?
Haven’t worded that very well but you know what I mean….

Re: Striking and Nightshifts/Shifts that Span Midnight
You either work your full shift, or strike your full shift.
So if you start at 22:00 before the day of the strike, you start on time and work your shift as normal. This means you will be working at times when others are striking.
If you start at 22:00 on a strike day, you strike for your full shift. This means you will be striking at times when other strikers are working.

Thanks.
So I assume it will be a local decision whether the night staff strike on the Thursday night (25th) or the Friday night (26th). I imagine it will be the latter.

No, it won’t be a local decision. If they start their shift on a non strike day they work it, if they start their shift on a strike day they strike it. It doesn’t matter what’s going on around you for the rest of your shift, just think about when you start.

Agreed, we have been told finish your shift on the day leading into the strike day! And then in the case of the 26th it’s a long bank holiday weekend

Re: Striking and Nightshifts/Shifts that Span Midnight
The notification is quite clear if you commence a duty at or after 04:00 you will be on strike on Friday 26th. If you are a night shift duty holder you will be on strike from Friday into Saturday.
The strike finishes at 04:00 on Saturday morning so all duties : which start at or after 04:00 on the Saturday will return to the normal working.
No duty holder is expected to cut of their duty to commence strike action instead it is that you do not commence your shift including any SA.

Strike ends at 04:00 so the distribution staff who normally start work after 04:00 will be at work and they will bring whatever is ready for you. So if they arrive at 06:00 & 08:00 as you stated they will arrive at those times like normal.

Work that arrives before the strike will still need to be done, and drivers who start shifts after 4am will still be dropping off stuff.

But no work is being delivered to normal offices on strike days, and the mail centre sorters wont be working 12am-4am Saturday morning so will anything even get processed for distribution to deliver anything Saturday morning?TrueBlueTerrier wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 17:06No.2yearpostie wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 13:44Does that mean we wont be getting any work at the delivery offices the day after the strike, as distrubution deliver to us a 3am,6am and 8am.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 13:40The notification is quite clear if you commence a duty at or after 04:00 you will be on strike on Friday 26th. With the 4 days of the strikes, AFAIK for us in MCs on night shift, the strikes start at 04:00 so we finish the shift as normal and for us the next day is the strike day:
Friday 26th August: Thursday going into Friday we're on shift as normal, Friday going into Saturday will be our strike day
Wednesday 31st August: Tuesday going into Wednesday we'll be on shift as normal, our strike day will be the Wednesday going into Thursday
Thursday 8th & Friday 9th September: Wednesday going into Thursday we're on shift as normal. Thursday going into Friday and Friday going into Saturday are our strike days.
Some staff who work 3 or 4 day weeks, might miss one of both days
