Later starts and Hot weather
Tomorrow at my D.O we're starting earlier to avoid some of the heat ,now according to so called experts these hot weather periods are set to become more frequent. So when RM decided to push our delivery hours further into the hottest part of the day what would happen? Would be able to come in 3 hours early? Cant see it can you? No joined up thinking ever is there. So the job will be horrendous in summer and winter

Doubtful, you wouldn't get your work in any earlierpieoftheday wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 19:09Tomorrow at my D.O we're starting earlier to avoid some of the heat ,now according to so called experts these hot weather periods are set to become more frequent. Re: Later starts and Hot weather
I said this to our union rep the other day. How the f**k do they expect us to be out on delivery till 4pm every day through summer, and then in the f***ing dark once it's winter?
I'm normally pretty mild about this job but the advanced stupidity is really starting to grind my gears. Between the completely useless holiday booking app, this seasonal working crap, moving our start and finish times later, absolutely risible pay rise offers with the insulting " up to " like ANY of us would see the extra 2% for hitting Productivity Targets, I'm extremely close to being finished with this company.

I think we all are. RM just want to steam-roller change through regardless.(Much like the government) So when we strike and they suddenly find thousands of "agency staff", they`ll be paying A LOT more than the paltry sum they`ve offered, for people that don`t know their arse from their elbow. Of course , they should be taking agency on NOW to train for the living hell of Christmas, but they`re more interested in pissing off the good staff they already have. That sounds too much like forward planning.Drezlar wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 19:36I said this to our union rep the other day. You will find they will piss off the agency staff as well in the next few weeks and that pool of people that may have been available at Christmas will become even shorter.WalkerX wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 20:50I think we all are. All part of the masterplan. They told us 10 years ago that the job was going to change in the long term. Give it 5 years and it'll be noon starts for what's left of the full timers. Quality of service has gone, the USO will be gone, Tuesday will be the new Sunday.WalkerX wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 20:50I think we all are. Re: Later starts and Hot weather
The hot weather is in the summer when you will be working fewer hrs anyway, there is no work in the summer so you will be all right.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Later starts and Hot weather
Working in the hot weather from 9.30am to 2.30pm is bad enough.
They need to get air conditioning in the vans.
Nobody is going to want to be driving around with no air conditioning for the 3 or 4 hottest hours of the day between 12 and 4pm.
It's like getting into a sauna, I instantly sweat as i get in. It is not fun at all.

Wont really work, air con needs at least 5 minutes to be effective and the stop start nature of the job isnt really air con friendly.norris9 wrote: ↑10 Aug 2022, 18:21Working in the hot weather from 9.30am to 2.30pm is bad enough.
