Anyone here ever worked/knows someone who works as a hospital porter? This is one option out of several I’m considering if I leave (increasingly likely) Royal Mail. Is the job stressful? I know the pay is not as good as a Postie, but am willing to take a pay cut for my mental health.
I know people who work as a NHS porter and domestics, Weekend pay is quite generous x1.5 for Saturday and double time Sunday with plenty of overtime available.
Bad points,Covid is rife.
Avoid then.
Why avoid?
As you said yourself bad points covid is rife.

Why would Covid being apparently ''rife'' be an issue for someone who is fit and active with no underlying health issues?

Might have an interview for Southern Water. Anyone know what they’re like and how they compare to Royal Mail?

A former nationalised company paid for by the tax payer subsequently privatised and sold off whilst dishing
out millions in share dividends to fat cats and overseas shareholders whilst just about maintaining the required
service they are supposed to provide and getting fined on occasion for failing standards they're supposed
to achieve. Royal Mail or Southern Water? - take your pick!

Joking aside, no idea what the water companies are like to work for, depends on what function you're applying for I suppose.

I’ve now actually applied for an entry level office job. It’s less pay but I’d be working from home and it’s for a reputable company with good promotion prospects. Might regret it but would regret it if I didn’t try. Seems a shame to leave after spending 20 years here but it feels like now or never. Good luck to anyone who’s thinking of leaving and good luck to all those who are staying 👍🏻
Sorry to ask but you wouldn't share what company? I need to find something myself >.<

Super fit or not ,working in an environment where viruses are airborne is not good for anyone and is not uncommon to for NHS staff to get Covid 3-4 times a year.

Viruses are the main cause of autoimmune diseases and Covid is one nasty Fxxxxr .

Here are the most common diseases.

Addison disease
Celiac disease - sprue (gluten-sensitive enteropathy)
Dermatomyositis
Graves disease
Hashimoto thyroiditis
Multiple sclerosis
Myasthenia gravis
Pernicious anemia
Reactive arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis
Sjögren syndrome
Systemic lupus erythematosus
Type I diabetes

Only the FFP3 mask are effective at reducing contagion, these are expensive and generally not available for majority of NHS workers who wear surgical type mask.

I'm not familiar with all those, but the ones i do know have nothing to do with working in the NHS or mask wearing. NHS staff getting CV 3/4 times a year is wrong too. I've no idea what point you're trying to make!

Just be honest in it, but don't downplay RM as you'll look desperate.

Even if SW are poo, you'll gather experience and knowledge that can set you up for other roles internal and external to the company.

Leaving RM the first time pre privatisation allowed me to gather experience and consequently allowed me to leave RM again now, for a better job all round i'll add.

Those two aren't airborne or contagious.
