If we pay for first class service, we expect to receive first class service.
The exception, of course, is Royal Mail, which takes our money for next-day delivery of our letters, then often lets us down.
In any other walk of life, it would be deemed obtaining money by false pretences.

Our Oxford Mail survey, in which we posted first and second class letters to our office from various destinations, shows that there is still much room for improvement in our postal service.
One in five first class letters failed to arrive on time.
It may not have been a scientific exercise, but it highlights yet again that no-one can be absolutely sure that delivery targets will be met.
This is particularly important for businesses, which often have deadlines to meet.
Royal Mail blames industrial action and bad weather for its continuing troubles, but those excuses are wearing thin.
This winter has been very mild, compared with others, and as far as we are aware, there has been a period of relative peace at the Oxford sorting office at Cowley - but still performance is below par.
It makes us wonder what will happen when the Oxford operation closes and moves to Swindon.
We are promised a more efficient service.
But many will doubt that pledge when mail posted in Oxford has to be carted to Swindon to be sorted, then brought back to Oxford for delivery.
We are not filled with confidence.

I wholeheartedly agree!
It is disgusting, the way that RM are crippling our Service! All these Redundancies, closure of Post Offices, etc., etc., etc..
Hopefully, this article, and others like it, will force some change. Then again, Leighton and Crozier have made so much money now, that they probably couldn't care less what anyone else thinks.

Not meaning to support RM management ( or the Government) who seem determined to destroy Royal Mail but this item is journalism of the slackest type. How many letters did they send? From where to where? Correctly addressed? One out of five failed therefore four out of five got there on time. Perhaps if these journalists got off their lazy backsides and researched the real story - the destruction of Royal Mail and the reasons for poor morale - then maybe their stories would carry more relevance rather than being mere gap fillers between the adverts.

Agreed. But they weren't testing Special Delivery, they forked out 34p for which Royal Mail states "We aim to deliver all First Class items of mail the next working day" and there's a big difference between GUARANTEE and AIM. Rather than coming out with comments like "If we pay for first class service we expect to get first class service" why don't they have the sense rto investigate WHY First Class post might not be as good as it was some years ago, or do they think their readers just want to get a good moan rather than facts about job losses and other cost cutting measures ?sevenandseven wrote:Not meaning to support RM management ( or the Government) who seem determined to destroy Royal Mail but this item is journalism of the slackest type. Your last sentence sums it up. They do think that people would rather have a moan than know the facts. Thats why we have a reputation for being a nation of whingers. This government is proof of that. Any other country would have taken to the streets by now with the s**t this bunch of w*****s have thrown at people.
