What will striking achieve this time?
Not sure if I'm understanding this right but we are looking for a no strings deal, this has been the 'motto' of the union recently.
There is massive talk in our office (and every other office) about plans to change the start time, have annualised hours etc which we are all by now fully aware of. Well are these changes coming in whether the union like it or not or is there still some chance to come to some agreement on this? If this a forced change then is the proposed strike just about a decent payrise or are we hoping to get these new start times quashed too?
Basically are we definitely in for new start times/banked hours/working late in the winter no matter what?

There are two ballots for industrial action, one for pay (which has been voted on already) and one for terms and conditions I.e. changes.postiewhite wrote: ↑05 Aug 2022, 16:35If this a forced change then is the proposed strike just about a decent payrise or are we hoping to get these new start times quashed too?
EDIT: Just to clarify this means two lots of strikes essentially- potentially. So if get deal on one and not the other could stay striking, or whatever union decides.

Nothing is set in stone , we need to use this strike action to get Royal Mail to recognise and start negotiating with the union. There will be concessions made on both sides to get this resolved eventually, this is how it all usually pans out.My concerns this time though is that Royal Mail have been failing in delivery for a few years now and don’t seem to care , so I wonder if a few strike days here and there will really bother them anymore. It could well be a long drawn out and bitter dispute.

Gone are the days when a delivery not going out for a few days was a major issue.
Some walks don’t go out for days on end now. They will get managers, strike breakers and agency to do the tracked and specials and hope to break us.
People are going to have to be prepared to strike for several days at a time. All this rolling one day in each function won’t work.
s**t or bust time.

We all know they dont give a s**t about letters now, but in fairness, aren't they more liable now for the universal service given that COVID exemptions have passed? Think that was how they were able to get away with it for so longjagger wrote: ↑05 Aug 2022, 18:06Exactly.chickenwittle wrote: ↑05 Aug 2022, 17:24Nothing is set in stone , we need to use this strike action to get Royal Mail to recognise and start negotiating with the union. They’re itching for unofficial IA.
The briefings and threatening of executive action isn’t bluster for negotiations.
Smells very much like Force it in, force us out, new contracts issued, hello legal fire and re-hire.

Re: What will striking achieve this time?
There is no discipline in the job now. Back when the job was a respectable job to do, each and every item of mail be it letter or parcel had to be delivered EVERY day Monday to Saturday. It was called "CLEAR OFFICE PROCEDURE", and every office had to adhere to it or face a barrage of questions as to why not.
Now, whole walks just sit undelivered, odd undelivered letters laying around on delivery frames for days, it is a shocking indictment on management.
OFCOM are conspicuous by their absence, given how much fails each day RM would be totally bankrupt by now if the rules and retrospective fines were applied.
COVID is no longer an excuse.
Deliveries are so scant in areas now that I doubt the public will notice too much if the postie is on strike.....sadly.

If people do strike to the end, i reckon we'd come out with ~7% pay increase and a one off bonus, with rotating Sundays, later starts and the parcel routes integration.

Re: What will striking achieve this time?
Simple we carry on striking until they u turn,we need to stop cooperating right this minute, stop working overtime,if only people realised the workers and union hold the power to company success not the company, we all need to tell friends ,family and the public what they are trying to do and get the people behind us,they will try their hardest to put us against each other but we must stay strong, and do not listen to their lies and threats. If we lose this we will all be forever poor and downtrodden ,personally that's something i dont want for me and my family.

This exactly, they would love a bit of unofficial industrial action right now... they can fine the union and get the upper hand. In negotiations and in the media.... cool heads and steady hands... have to let the dispute run out naturally and legally

Re: What will striking achieve this time?
Are negotiations still ongoing, the employees and employer are so far apart there’s hardly any point at this time. If we are going to go down we might as well go fighting, fingers crossed we get some dates on Tuesday to get the ball rolling. Thompson and co are clearly planning on starving us out but equally I think they are overplaying their hand. Time to stick together.Mickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑05 Aug 2022, 20:50This exactly, they would love a bit of unofficial industrial action right now... they can fine the union and get the upper hand. As far as I see it.its not about mail not going out etc it's trying to wreck the share price enough that Thompson has to make a deal before the shareholders loose there sh@t and he looses the job.

They will just hoover up shares at the lowest price and sell for profit when they rise.postieblueshirt wrote: ↑05 Aug 2022, 21:59As far as I see it.its not about mail not going out etc it's trying to wreck the share price enough that Thompson has to make a deal before the shareholders loose there sh@t and he looses the job.
