The new LPSM went live in our MC yesterday.
Seems interesting.
Still requires manual loading onto powered tables, manual scanning and manual off-loading into Yorks.
Phenomenal pace of work required from team of operators.
Requirement is for people to each place one parcel into the system every four seconds.
They are going to be exhausted after the end of each shift.

Re: Large Parcel Sorting Machine
This task should be rotated then, no exceptions inc “Docket King’s”
We will see who still want’s to work 70hrs a week.
Is there an SSOW for the LPSM? or an Agreement like for the PSM’s?
I’d love to see an SSOW for it.

Re: Large Parcel Sorting Machine
Who knows.
All I know it takes up a space the size of a tennis court, requires more staff to operate and provides no benefit to the MC.
It’s also very noisy when it’s warning sounds go off.
I spoke to the senior trainer this evening and, apparently, when the DOs and MCs are all onboard with it, the machine might lead to a reduction in workload in the DOs.
Also, the Royal Mail will have even more data to play with.
In my opinion, coming from an O&M background elsewhere, it’s a pointless introduction.
The main PSM is pricing it’s value but, to the MC at least, the benefits seem very limited.

Re: Large Parcel Sorting Machine
There must be wider benefits to RM as a whole.
(I hope).
At MC input level it is hard to see any to our MC.
Mist if our stuff goes out to other MCs, so items within a york can be tracked all the way to the recipients’ local MC, and, hopefully, the DO.
Could be ‘interesting’ from that point onwards.
As for the local DOs that we support, I wish them luck.
I just hope this machine is not really a white elephant with RM trying to play catch-up with the likes of Amazon.
Time will tell.
Has anyone else got one of these machines?

What size range of parcels do they take?

Re: Large Parcel Sorting Machine
Don’t know the full range but it seems to accept items up to slightly narrower than the width of a York.

Gatwick. I understand that there may be a similar machine in East London, possibly Shoreditch(?)
