We've been told by one of our COMs that agency staff are starting on Wednesday or Thursday of next week and will be only be delivering parcels between 1pm and 7pm.
probably lat's then
I would have thought that it'd be a 15:00 start time as they'd need to wait for vans to come back. The only way around that I can think of would be to make some more walks into van shares to free a few vans up

I wouldn't have thought it would only be LATs in my office. At the moment we only get a small number of LATs that are divided up between half a dozen hybrid van duties and don't take up a very big part of their duty time.....and the COM is expecting 4 agency staff. 2 drivers would easily clear our usual LAT numbers in the 12 hours work between them. That leaves 2 spare staff, plus the 2 LAT drivers would probably have some spare time on a normal day. At the moment, anyway.

I wondered about that as well, had a quick Google for royal mail jobs and there's loads on agency sites advertised as 11am to 7pm delivering parcels so more vans required plus incidental stuff like pda's.

They could easily be starting at 1300. They need to route up and organise their packets to be out for 1500. Our DPR guys start at varying times between 1200 and 1500, depending. None leave until about 1430 at the earliest because oi the van issue. But there's plenty for the earlier starting ones to do.

No sense in everyone starting at 1500 and then not getting out until about 1630 because of the need to route up, van check, etc.

They are on 20hrs.
They will work Sundays and afternoons.
Most likely work pattern will be 5 days x 4hrs.
Probably 3pm-7pm, earlier on a Sunday.

We have 5-6 starting this week.
It is Executive Action concerning the parcel hubs.
We have invoked the IR Framework.
The real fight starts here.

Have we been on strike and I slept through it?

Do you think they will tell this new army of workers to go away because the current people we have dont like you and have gone on strike?
Your the one being daft if you do.

Yes.
They will be costing the business a fortune.
Agency staff are not a cheap alternative.
The staff themselves are on £11/hr and the agency will be charging roughly the same again.

Then there's the training costs and the very high turnover rate.
The fact that for every six booked two will not turn up and one will disappear halfway through the shift.

This isn't a long-term resourcing plan, it's a short term noise up to see if we have the stomach for a fight.

Some obviously don't.

Hardly an appealing offer when there are so many other permanent opportunities elsewhere. No doubt they will be promised full time jobs as seems to be the way with all our Xmas casuals over the last couple of years, who are then quickly dropped in the new year.

I liked how the other fella avoided answering the question on agency workers in the Q+A the other day

He was asked how much RM pay for an agency worker and he answered that RM pay the agency worker the same as an OPG - completely missing out the part where they have to pay the agency on top of that
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
