Executive Action…

Post by PostalWorker13 »

If the board used executive action to force through changes in the coming weeks, i.e annualised hours, Sunday working etc, how would it be done?

Would it change overnight or would they have to give notice to our terms being changed?

Would we be forced to follow the changes or face the sack, whilst a dispute with the union dragged on for months?

They seem hellbent on forcing them through, with or without agreement and it will be interesting to see what happens if that is the case…

A huge number of the workforce do this job because the hours suit their life. Do RM even care if 1000s left or is that good for them so they can hire new starts on s**t new contracts?

The first ballot was about pay only so if RM did force EA through now, as it stands there's nothing the union could do, that's what the second ballot is for

It’s pretty much guaranteed to be a strong yes vote though.

Would we just have to accept the changes if EA was used and then leave it to the union to announce strike dates until some sort of compromise was reached?

They own the company, they can instruct us to do anything at any time. They would probably give a 4-16 week notice of change and send new contracts out to be signed, if you dont want to sign the new terms the doors over there, ala what Asda did a few years back.

Yes they can instruct us but why do you think we are potentially going to strike for??

The problem being they hold the purse strings and I bet your average family man/woman can only strike for a few days before it becomes a luxury. RM have got used to stuff not going out so they will hold out longer than us.

What a defeatist attitude

You may say you are being realistic but if we all had your attitude can you imagine the working conditions/pay/hours etc?

Oh I agree and of course we have to voice our displeasure with this and try to find some middle ground, but the company will Always get most of what they want, Just hope Terry uses the mandate to lever talks instead of strikes and meet the company half way, IE Sundays fine, rota everyone in fairly at the start of the year for 4 so they have a full years notice to orginize family stuff, later starts go from them wanting 3 hours down to just 1.5hours, flexy time becoming more like the old jo and knock and being calculated each month instead of yearly thing, talks on the sick pay etc.

I'm sure Terry has it all in hand :Very Happy

It's going to be an interesting few weeks that's for sure and if Royal Mail play hard ball then I think strikes will become a reality. I'm willing to strike for as long as the union want but I know not everyone will find that easy. There is absolutely no way that I will ever work a Sunday, no matter how infrequent they may be.

In my opinion, and I hope I'm wrong I think that they going to let us strike until we can't afford to strike no more. Agency will come in, cover tracked items and then we mop up the day after effectively making strike action null and void.
