That's why I am happy with my walker duty we get same pay like driver but drivers got this kind of excess baggage cost them job loss
Yes,it's a tough time being the driver doing all the van checks making sure the vans roadworthy, delivering all the big packets and making sure the specials are delivered before 1pm.

Drivers mate can just sit in the van watching tik tok videos or playing clash of clans on phone
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

1st gear if facing uphill and reverse if facing downhill.
With the wheel turned into the kerb (or out when appropriate).

Both on their own won't guarantee against a roll away, but it will make it harder to happen. The inertia of the car rolling has to overcome the resistance of the engine and it is harder if you leave the vehicle in reverse or 1st gear, something to do with compression IIRC.
Depends on the compression of the engine most have blue smoke and are not serviced 3 year old oil engine kaput.

Don't Royal Mail show a video in WTLL which a woman suffered serious injuries as a result of a van rolling back on her because she hadn't properly used the handbrake?
Did she lose her job?
If not they have surely set a precedent?

See the above thread, also have you guys had WTLL on HIT at your place?
My link-It was even on RMtv!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

just do your van checks, park properly, stop rushing ,take your time doing large parcels and make sure the walker takes his trolley and fill it with as many large one's as you can and cut-off ,i do it everyday.

I would be demanding an independent check be done on the van's handbrake rachet gear. I see vans as old as 08 plate still in service (14 years old and now pink-they look a disgrace), think how many thousands of times during that time that the handbrake has been pulled up and down.....how worn out is the ratchet mechanism? Is this specific item actually checked on servicing?

Sadly as the victim has done 30 years those up in the ivory towers will be smiling like a Cheshire cat....

Go through the conduct code with a fine tooth comb and check they’ve done everything by the book. Was everything provided that should have been by the managers at the right time? Ask for evidence of the costs involved, and the damage. Have there been similar cases with lesser penalties? Did you follow the correct process when it happened? Has the vehicle been examined to determine whether there was a fault? Did you receive the team briefing regarding rollaways? Research the make and model to see if it’s a common problem. Has RM maintained the vehicle correctly? Unfortunately CWU won’t do this, you’ll have to.
