In my previous job they used to give you extra days off when it was quiet and was payed back usually at xmas time when place was busier. You would get staff jumping at the opportunity of time off but didn’t like it when it had to be repaid.. :Very Happy

Zareena 'What a way to make a living ' Brown : The Peeps Officer

So, in terms of what we're not proposing, and clearly, again, it's one of the items that we want to talk through withThe CWU, get their input because we know that the solution we come out with will be much stronger as a result of that.

But what I can say is you know there isn't an intent to have annualised hours in terms of a short notice asking people to you know significantly change the hours that they work.

This is more about if you think about, um, you know, whether it's seasonally, for example, summer vs winter, we do have a change in the workload and you'll see that and experience that but actually what we have is you know we're quite fixed in terms of the hours that we have.

So what that means is you know we're not able to flex up and down. now, as we think about our competitors, you know many of them pay per parcel, for example, so they don't quite have the same challenge and we've been really clear as we've talked about that, we want to maintain you know the the best terms and conditions, the best pay and benefits in the industry.

So from that point of view, you know that that we don't have that flexibility and to a large extent, you know we invest in our people and we invest in our paying benefits, so we've got to be able to have greater flexibility going forward.

But clearly what we want to be able to do is for people to be able to plan ahead to be able to continue to work in a way that works for them.

So we're going to have to get that balance right of increasing our flexibility in a sensible way, but absolutely being able to do that in a way that is plentiful.

We talked a little bit about you know different duty patterns. so i think there are a number of things that we can do. that will be helpful in terms of our flexibility being able to work for individuals.

But you know the message I'd like you to take away is our intent is to increase our flexibility. but do that in a way that you know can work as best for everybody, whether that's people that, you know, have child care or other care caring commitments that they have. so again, I come back to that word of balance between those two things.

Zareena. How do Mum's and Dad's pick up there children from school at 3:15 in the winter if they are supposed to finish at 6pm ?

Its not a simple straightforward task of juggling the hours people work.

And if the suggestion for picking up from school is like with hospital appointments, you just book an odd hour of leave, can these idiots explain how that works if you are on a van share or similar. The crap about "4-10 weeks notice of a change" really doesn't work.

The whole annualised hours idea is just a variation of a zero hours contract. You are free for whatever hours they decide they need you for, being paid a set amount is meaningless as we all know we will be needed for far more hours than the set rate will be.

I have a different interpretation of "Analised Hours". In the Summer I manage to nearly finish at my contracted time, perhaps only booking 20 mins untaken Meal Relief. Feels like I've got a part time job, oh how I envy those corner cutting bastards that finish early every day. :thumbup

During Winter it's back to booking 1.30 a day, at least, and those corner cutting bastards are still finishing early! :thumbdown

So good luck with trying to claw back any hours from me, if um you know what I mean like. :cuppa

Great

Put me down for the night shift out on delivery from 4pm till midnight. I will quite happily swap with someone who works mornings and finishes at 1pm.

Similar here. Although it's the majority of my office finishing late, and that's with cutting corners. I clock 3 to 5hrs weekly currently, and 5 to 8hrs in the winter, that's with no lapsing despite it being allocated every day. Another week of 20+ rounds not going out.

This annualised hours bs really isn't going to work.

If everyone took their breaks and didn't cut corners ie. doorstep, walk across people's lawns, etc... then I am not sure you'd be banking that many hours, if any. You will have posties going over time in Spring and then under their time in July. It will probably just even itself out that when it comes to Winter, there will be no banked hours and posties will just have to book overtime.

If you are expecting posties to get back 'early' in the summer months to bank the time so they have to work longer in winter, then you're crazy. No Postman is going to try to get back early. What will most likely happen is Posties will work to rule, have their breaks and finish 'on time'.

The only way you can do it is to have an early cut off time where posties have to finish at 1.30pm, but they can bring what they have left back.

Fantastic, they must be planning on employing loads of people to fill in all the gaps so we don’t need to do lapsing!

Yes and there will always be lapsing regardless of what they say

When someone rings in sick, guess who's doing the lapsing to save costs and get the duty covered?

Bringing post back surely goes against the stay out until you've finished mantra? Basically they haven't a clue what they are talking about. Simon suggested yesterday on Workplace that they don't intend having posties walking the streets at 8pm but that is also something they seem to be suggesting.
