I'm not sure they want sell gls they are just threatening to unlink the two maybe it wouldn't matter they are both making profit think its just good old s**t slinging between them and the union.
I don’t think they want to either, I think they are being pressured by the largest shareholder. He is betting he can make more of a return by GLS being sold of whilst the rest of the business is left to burn.

What would they gain from splitting them thats the question.
Short term gain, long term loss. As long as GLS is part of Royal Mail Group that buys management time to make the necessary changes to the UK business (in their view). But, if GLS is sold off they will have money in the bank short term but medium to long term they have an un-viable business in terms of revenue and profit - they would be captains of a foundering vessel far from sure with no lifeboats.

Anyone who thinks they won't split the company up anyway is dreaming - they've been wanting to split GLS and PF off for years, they'll probably even drag the parcel business from RM as well and form one new parcels company (using the new parcel hubs and depots) with a rump Royal Mail left that delivers letters - that they'll probably flog back to the government to run at a massive loss.

They never actually wanted the letters business, they only thing they ever wanted from the privatisation of RM was

- the massive real estate bank it was sitting on
- the near monopoly it had on parcels

They've now sold off as much of the real estate as they can, so the next stage is to take the prime locations and make them the new parcel depots and f**k off with them and the newly built parcel hubs - then load as much debt onto the letters part of the business as they can.

I've a feeling the executives who be party to such a measure would jump ship
either to the more profitable GLS or abandon the RM letters ship totally with a pay off and
seek out the next business to fleece.

I expect this is all near correct. However i expect they don't really have a proper plan, and they are just too slow to market. Not that i care if they succeed, though i do enjoy knowing some billionaires have lost big money in the past, and very recently so.

We are dealing with a spoilt brat who kicks of about his self importance and derides us all saying we are not worth it. The days of the elite and entitled are numbered time will come these parasites will be recompensed for the deficit they have done to the whole of society. With a nice guillotine and a woven basket and that heads will roll!

Unfortunarely I don't think that option's open for the Shareholders. The Best we can hope for is that they sack the Bastard (hopefully without giving him a £million golden handshake), and then we'll just end up- with another Money Grabbing Asshole. :arrrghhh

Much of this is sabre rattling. Much of what the company are proposing will never happen, it's a negotiating position with the Union who are demanding wage rises that are never gonna happen. My guess is we'll end up with a 5 or 6% rise and possibly new starts covering the later hours and Sundays. Royal Mail get what they want, and the Union claim a big win preventing us all working later and Sundays. Can't help but feel the CWU have goofed making so much of the no strings stuff though, change is constant and I doubt there's ever been a pay deal without some agreement of change attached to it.

So you would just accept 2% and bow down? Not for me fight for your rights in the end your cause is just and a noble one.

Nobody is talking about bowing down and just accepting anything. Royal Mail are gonna push for what they want, inevitably which ain't good for us. It's the unions job to push back; nobody is gonna end up with everything they want. We have to accept change is coming though. It's like the six day USO, as much as I'd like it to stay in an ideal world the reality is it is hard to justify now. Monday's are so light now in our office it's hard to justify going out at times. If we were to just do parcels at the weekend, allowing those five day contracts to work Monday - Friday if that's what they want to do then I doubt many would have too many complaints.

Most of the small parcels are technically large letters so they won't go out on a Saturday. The parcel hubs will be taking all the large parcels and large Tracked, maybe even the smaller Tracked so that'll leave just D2D and SDs, even then only the Saturday Guaranteed SDs need go out. Assuming that the D2D have already been done, you're only going to need about half a dozen staff at most
