I was part of a team that implemented something like this, but much better, at British Gas. 20 years ago...

Thing is, it's completely useless unless its attached to a holiday availability tracker or it's really just replacing one manual function for the managers with another. You're just shooting in the dark hoping to hit an available day/week.
Spot on, all it does is replace speaking/passing a bit of paper to someone for them to ignore or just say no, they need to tweak it to show what's available and when you select it you get it, also of course the option to select which of your pre booked leave that you want to move to the newly selected slot.

It’s taken a year to even get this, check back in again in 2025.

Al the people talking about leave availability. If the management are doing their job properly THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANY! Every person should have all their leave agreed by October of the previous year. You should then be given a leave card with it on. At this point it means the leave ceiling for every week is full. If your office is doing it any other way then see your rep.

I did the leave for years at my place. Once it was done I would put up a list of everyones leave so people could see who was off every week. The staff can then go and see if anyone would swap them weeks. The leave ceiling was also on there for each week. I also had a sort of ready reckoner so you could see what days off people had years in the future. You could then try to swap days off with the float or the duty holders.

As a new start I haven't requested any annual leave yet but I did see the video on the app explaining I could now apply for it.
I said to my manager about it and asked him if I can apply for it on the app. He said no and gave me a sheet to fill in.

AS others have already said, it is pointless just putting in requests if the weeks are full. We have an operational resourcing guy who deals with that, The manager says to him, can he have this day / week off, the guy checks the book and tells him if the space is available or not. Good in principle but it cannot work unless you know what you want is free.

I booked a day off in November three weeks ago today on the app, still says sent.
Cancelled it today.
Waste of time.

Had an actual WTL meeting last night to be told not to use the App and go through the whole rigmarole of filling in a form waiting til the book room can be bothered to look at then getting the usual "No - Leave Allocation Over Subscribed" which always bothers me how exactly do you get to be the person who is allowed to go over the allotted number

But what happens if your manager is off sick or on annual leave. Where does the request go then?

Well obviously it would be dealt with when he returns, or by another manager.

In the approver section it is showing me someone I have never heard of. It is not one of my line managers, so would it be HR?
Just trying to request a day off, slow as f*ck, but does show my lino, so at least something is working.....

edit: Seemed to have worked. On the day I requested, there is a golden line at the bottom of the date which denotes it's been sent.
Let us know when its accepted/rejected.
Just a quick update, spoke to my dim about the request, 2 days later, he told me that he had received it and would let know. Looked on the app today and noticed it had been authorised by him, so happy days. Granted this is only for 1 day, not sure how it would go for a week A/L.

The manager my request went to was apparently off for 2 of the 3 weeks I left it on there. Obviously she didn’t see it on her return.
