Mail volumes are absolutely irrelevant in this dispute, it's a red herring, smoke and mirrors, a distraction, whatever you want to call it.
Royal Mail are not in the slightest bit interested in how much mail might be backlogged. They are interested in parcels and the confidence of the customers who send them.

That's exactly what I keep saying but it seems to sometimes fall on deaf ears, RM have invested shitloads of money to try and get big players like John Lewis etc on board as parcel sending customers, so even the threat of a strike wouldn't go down too well.
