I'm just being realistic about it. It's going to happen at some point and there's nothing that any of us will be able to do about it2yearpostie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 10:53Then why are you cheerleading for it and willing it to happen?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 08:56EVERYONES shifts would move back in RDCs, MCs and DOs2yearpostie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 06:50You do realise that the mail centre shifts will move back as well as you wont have anything to process...SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 21:22My gut feeling is that the later starts will happen anyway due to the savings RM would make with shift allowances

Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
I spoke to a couple of COMs today about it and they are absolutely dreading the prospect of this coming in.
"Unworkable bollocks" were the most common words used especially around the bonkers idea that you can cut the core hours in an office by up to 10% in the summer, practically have to reduce lapsing to zero but still according to Simon offer more annual leave.
The general impression around management is that it is so complex and unworkable that this is only on the table so that it can then be taken off the table at some point as a show of compromise.
Is it a genuine proposal?

If they introduce the changes to sick pay, I will just attend work, even if clearly unfit to do so, sign-in and offer as little productivity as is humanly possible!

As for being out in the dark in winter, we have 17 female colleagues in my depot and everyone of them have said if that comes in they will be leaving. We have a couple of rounds that most people dont like doing in daylight hours let alone in the pitch black of night.RTP wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 23:25Martin...are the CWU health and safety and their lawyers all over this?SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑20 Jul 2022, 21:22My gut feeling is that the later starts will happen anyway due to the savings RM would make with shift allowances
This weeks UK heatwave can surely only help our cause and show what a numptified idea it is try to send us out in the summer, as a starting point at the hottest part of the day and carry on right through until we deliver the lot (because we will have to) as the temperature continues to rise and peaks around teatime, unless the thermometer reaches 35 degrees and then we can stop and then royal mail will bank those hours for the winter. What kind of cloud cuckoo land is this?
The general public have been told to stay out of the hottest part of the day to avoid dehydration, skin cancer etc.
Every expert and their dog tells us that climate change is happening , but we are told that we need to start later, take our breaks in the shade, drink plenty of water and wear your wide brimmed hat that Royal Mail have so kindly provided. Wow and still we have no aircon in the vans. Even British gas employees have vans with aircon.
Now lets look at winter. It starts getting dark around 3.30pm in the height of winter, but we are being told that " team we are asking you to work an hour longer in the winter" and " team we are only asking you to start around 1 to 3 hours later".
So we are being asked/ told that in the winter when it gets dark and the temperature drops that we must carry on working until we finish . We are not just a parcel delivery firm, we are out on foot.
Clearly starting us at the hottest part of the day in the summer and making us work in the cold dark nights of winter trying to read letters and scrambling around in the dark is going to make us more productive![]()

I'm surprised the union has been silent on the dangers especially for female members of walking around some of our more dangerous areas in the dark at night. As for being out in the dark in winter, we have 17 female colleagues in my depot and everyone of them have said if that comes in they will be leaving...
Well I'm not that surprised really since the top of the union tree is mostly made up of middle aged men who haven't done a delivery since the days when women made up about 5% of the workforce.
I'm pretty sure RM could find themselves facing some kind of legal action if they were to push this through, not only because of the added risk but also because a move to later starts would almost definitely disproportionately affect female members more than male members due to childcare issues. I'm also sure they would get publicly slated for doing so.
So why is the union staying silent?
Surely someone has asked these employment lawyers Martin keeps talking about?

I'd imagine that RM will have already looked into all that, to make sure that their ass is coveredWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 19:11I'm pretty sure RM could find themselves facing some kind of legal action if they were to push this through, not only because of the added risk but also because a move to later starts would almost definitely disproportionately affect female members more than male members due to childcare issues. It doesn't have to be a "dangerous area" just look at recent cases and their seems weirdos everywhere who are capable of attacking lone woman, female posties would be a sitting target as they do the same walk every evening so can be easily staked out. I think if my partner was a postie I'd tell to start looking for a new job if these changed were brought in.

I was assaulted on delivery at 9am in the middle of a town by a drugged up youth. Having people out after dark will dramatically increase posties getting mugged or assaulted.TopperGas wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 21:07Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 19:11I'm surprised the union has been silent on the dangers especially for female members of walking around some of our more dangerous areas in the dark at night. As for being out in the dark in winter, we have 17 female colleagues in my depot and everyone of them have said if that comes in they will be leaving...

Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson : The changes we need
Thinking about it this will surely one of the changes conceded by RM, as working in the dark from a safety angle seems unworkable, physical attacks, slipping on ice, dog attacks etc, apart from delivering parcels in a van. I can't think of one job apart from the police who walk the streets, & lanes, at night.aiden01 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 20:50Don't know if you have a wife, partner, girlfriend, spacephoenix but would you be happy for them to be out delivering in the dark ffs.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 19:14I'd imagine that RM will have already looked into all that, to make sure that their ass is coveredWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 19:11I'm pretty sure RM could find themselves facing some kind of legal action if they were to push this through, not only because of the added risk but also because a move to later starts would almost definitely disproportionately affect female members more than male members due to childcare issues. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I think they've definitely shoved in a load of 'we want this eventually but it'll be years away' stuff to give up. I think ultimately their main aims for this time around will beWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Jul 2022, 14:27I spoke to a couple of COMs today about it and they are absolutely dreading the prospect of this coming in.

Is it a genuine proposal?
- the introduction of the parcel sorting hubs and parcel depots
- 7 day working
- later delivery so they can stop paying for the planes
- sick pay and attendance procedure changes
I can see them dropping the sick pay changes maybe, but I think the first 3 are something they won't budge on at all.
