This has been discussed on here somewhere already people seem to think it wouldn't work the same as a smaller company just for the sheer size of RM and expense apparently agency staff isn't that cheap anymore.smartin1982 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2022, 20:03https://www.gov.uk/government/news/gove ... ike-action
This is why they’ve wound us up and wanted us to ballot on multiple issues.
They’ll be looking to hit the union massively financially, or even bankrupt them with minimal impact to service or costs. They knew this was coming and they’ve been laughing.
Disgusting Tory scum.

Re: Royal Mail chairman says firm is at 'crossroads moment' as it balances union action with productivity woes
You only have to read the article in the telegraph this morning based on an interview with Simon Thompson to understand the reason why we need the second ballot in place.
No one is bottling it , in fact to the contrary we are preparing ourselves for a battle ensuring we have both ballots in place.
With all due respect I would rather listen to Employment lawyers advice on why a second ballot is necessary and the what we need to do to in the interim to reduce risks from any potential challenges.
The Postal Executive had a four hour meeting with our Employment lawyers where questions were asked and answered before arriving at the decision to ballot on the second ballot. So we have done so based on the advice and the fact it is needed.
Let’s be clear there is only now going to be one agreement and that agreement is going to be a settlement based on pay and agreed change.
Clearly over the last two weekends , Williams the chair and Thompson the CEO have toughen their position on change ahead of the Shareholders AGM in York on Wednesday.
By then we would have announced our ballot result and given notice of the second ballot.
The pressure following the AGM will be that they then have to introduce their promises to the Shareholders by the next half year results .
I expected negotiations to properly start from week commencing 25th July.

I thought the one agreement Terry promised us was a pay rise NOT linked to change?Martin Walsh wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 08:39Let’s be clear there is only now going to be one agreement and that agreement is going to be a settlement based on pay and agreed change.
Which of the changes being proposed are now acceptable?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I'm assuming their advice was sought before members were encouraged to open their ballots in the workplace the last time and post pictures on the CWU's own Facebook page? With all due respect I would rather listen to Employment lawyers advice
So the talks on pay will have to be linked with the talks on change.Martin Walsh wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 08:39Let’s be clear there is only now going to be one agreement and that agreement is going to be a settlement based on pay and agreed change.
Therefore the pay dispute cannot be resolved in isolation.
Therefore the ballot over pay will remain live until the dispute on change is resolved.
Therefore the second ballot is irrelevant.
It's not rocket science Martin.

Think we may have to go old school and just wild cat every time Royal Mail introduce another part of the their race to be New Yodel/Hermes model. Our leaders quite clearly have no idea of how the company works anymore either that or just bend over and accept what's coming just hoping some lube is usedWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 12:08I'm assuming their advice was sought before members were encouraged to open their ballots in the workplace the last time and post pictures on the CWU's own Facebook page? With all due respect I would rather listen to Employment lawyers advice

Thought the same as you Clash. That's a helluva about turn isn't it and it's not what Terry said in a video before!clashcityrocker wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 08:50I thought the one agreement Terry promised us was a pay rise NOT linked to change?Martin Walsh wrote: ↑17 Jul 2022, 08:39Let’s be clear there is only now going to be one agreement and that agreement is going to be a settlement based on pay and agreed change.

That's changed the perspective on things. Can we legally strike on a pay AND changes deal if the
two existing ballots are separate? Is the second ballot on changes ONLY going ahead? Or will there be ANOTHER ballot
on pay WITH changes?
I can see these negotiations taking all summer now.
I thought CWU were playing this the right way but.......
Anyone for the 'Deal of the millenium' ?

Re: Royal Mail chairman says firm is at 'crossroads moment' as it balances union action with productivity woes
I'm sure I posted right back at the beginning words to this effect. We could have saved ourselves all this trouble and table thumping if we knew from the beginning we were going to accept pay and changes being linked. I do like Terry but he's made himself look a bit silly if he's now going to go into talks with them about the changes.
No doubt someone will trot out the old Industrial Disputes are only ended in the negotiation room not on the picket lines. Still feel like we have just wasted everybodies time and the unions money on 2 ballots if we were just going to get in a room and ask how high they want us to jump so we can get another 3.5%

Why am I starting to get a feeling that RM will end up getting both ballots thrown out?

Re: Royal Mail chairman says firm is at 'crossroads moment' as it balances union action with productivity woes
If we get the expected result on the pay ballot tomorrow then surely the union has no mandate other than to negotiate a no strings pay rise or else instigate the industrial action voted for by members in order to secure one.
We want our pay rise to match inflation. We don't want a pay deal. If the union leadership aren't up to this fight then they need to stand aside.
