Summer staffing

Post by peterloo »

Realistically does the summer drop in mail volumes actually exist anymore.I think we get the odd light monday tuesday but that is it. i have asked my manager for proof of a volume drop before i progress with the summer staffing part of phase 2 of the pay agreement

Only slight drops in volume which is always replaced with D2D.

I work in an MC and personally believe that the only realistic way to cover summer staffing in DOs is to use the people from the MCs, although MC staff will not be keen, i think its unrealistic to ask walkmen to do 1 and a half deliveries a day

when r/m say mail volumes drop in the summer you might get a max of 2wks in august if it happens.
if and when volumes drop it doesnt mean you have less calls on your round it means instead of 5+
letters to a house you might have 1+ but your round does not become shorter.
when it is busy ie:bulk posting and xmas r/m dont turn round and say too you that dont do that bottom
row because it is busy.they expect us to just do it and they challenge us when extended is asked for.
so for me they can stick summer staffing where the sun doesnt shine.
its simple DO THE JOB PROPERLEY AND THEY WILL FIND IT HARD TO GIVE YOU EXTRA WORK.

Well said Yorkie, been trying to get this through to our DIM for ages! if it is true that volumes go down in the summer [not noticed this year] then all you save is the time on prep! less mail to prep,it doesn't mean that you can do more walk, like Yorkie says, you might have one letter for the house instead of 4 so you are still going to the same number of houses!! they will not listen

In our DO they have tried to get the day off split with the rest of the section on the day off, couple of people said they would like to do it, but the rest in the section said no, see what happens when you don't support the strike!

As i read the agreement it would be interesting to know what will happen, as i believe you don't have to work more hours, just agree to the summer staffing, then work to your hours thus having no time to do extra

support the campaign, do your job properly!

Mail didn't drop off last summer (maybe an odd day here and there) but overall there is no reduction. My DUM won't give over last summers figures (at least until he's manipulated them to suit him).

Even our DOM has admitted that the mail doesn't drop off in the summer and he was also wondering where higher management got this idea from.
