Latest from former government scientist: “ Speaking to LBC, former government chief scientist Sir David King said it is ‘very likely to be the hottest heatwave we have experienced on record in the UK’.
He said: ‘if you are even in the shade in 40°C heat and 80% humidity you won’t live for very long. You just can’t get rid of the excess heat.“

Well that makes me feel a lot better

I can see a lot of people going sick on Tuesday. Many of us will just wait and see what RM do tomorrow. If they do send us out and the heat is unbearable then I reckon many will just go sick on Tuesday (which will be even hotter).

What the hell are the Union playing at, agreeing to this?

Do they really think their members are safe walking 10 miles in direct sun and 34 degree heat?

WTF is the CWU for. Waste of space. Should have been a 1 minute conversation. RM policy states delivery suspended in RED weather warning. RED warning in place from 00:01 Monday - 23:59 Tuesday, and STILL the union manage to negotiate down from this black and white position to sending us out til it's 35°C !!! :arrrghhh

I just looked at the weather forecast on the BBC Weather site for where I live and for London and Cambridge (which I believe were due to see the hottest temps). At one point it was going to be a little cooler on Tuesday but now it looks like Tuesday will be as bad as Monday

Our manager toid us on Sat. that we would still have to do our lapsing on Monday as there's not enough staff to cover it, but we can start 1 hour earlier.

So basically tomorrow they will send everyone out until 1) it reaches 35c, or 2) you drop dead!

Most of my round is rural in a van so as soon as the van shows 35 I'm out of there. Won't take long...

I agree. They have let us down BIG TIME by agreeing to the 35 Deg c rule. Has anyone actually tested it to see if its safe ?

Wow you all need to a chill a bit, turn up as normal, get as much ips done as you can before 8am, get your tracked, specials and letters for where you have to go with a parcel, come back at 11am. simple.
As I said before, you are in your own little goldfish bowl and don't know everybody's workplace situations/routines
- some of our SPDO's (at the end of the line) don't get their mail until 0900! So stop giving it the 'chill out' and 'simple'.
