They are now saying Monday will be around 35, but Tuesday it will be 37 or higher!! Should we even be working outside in those temperatures? Our local bin collections have been affected because the council are saying it’s too hot for bin men to do their job! It will be interesting to see what RM do, if anything.
I assume as it's only an Amber weather warning from the Met Office then you would be expected to work. If it changes to red then maybe they'd have to consider what actions to take.
The higher temperatures aren't due until the middle of the day in my area. See if your manager will allow you to come in an hour or so earlier.
It makes you wonder what actually constitutes as a Red weather warning in a heatwave? Seeing as the highest recorded temperature in the UK is 38.7c, and next Tuesday is going to be very close - if not higher - than that, how hot has it got to be to trigger a red weather warning?
What is worth bearing in mind is that these temperature forecasts are based on forecasted 'in the shade' temperatures, not temperatures
forecast in the middle of the day in urban areas with no shade where the heat is reflecting off/being retained by tarmac/concrete/windows
or in a van with no A/C. Temperature readings will actually be higher in those situations - it's going to be hot....damn hot.
We’ve been told todays that Monday and Tuesday we are to start at 6am, get out as soon as possible and once we finish we can go home no matter how early we are. If it goes to a red weather warning (which it just has) then we won’t be going out at all. That’s our office anyway, no doubt everywhere will be different.

Can't see how any office can get out any earlier unless none of the wave 2 stuff (inc SDs and Tracked) goes out. Even the nearest DOs to us probably don't get their wave 2 stuff in till about 07:00, probably 08:00-08:30 for the DOs furthest away
I don't see why they wouldn't ask us to come in earlier and finish at 11am.
The temperatures up to 11am aren't going to be much different from what we've been working in for the past 3 weeks.
The only thing I can think of is if someone dies at work because of the heat whilst a red warning has been put out by the MET office, Royal Mail would probably be liable for sending their workforce out.....so they won't even risk it and won't have us in to deliver anything. Although, that said - some offices did deliver for an hour or so during the wind red warning we had several months back.

Because we wont be taking any 2nd wave stuff, we will just fail it.
Mondays are generally less of a problem because of no later lorry coming in. But Tuesday being the hotter day - and generally quite a busy day lately - is much more of a problem. I think it should be less about starting earlier and more about taking less. There’s also bigger problems if you’re not on a van share because you could collapse and have nobody find you in time. I would personally go for something similar as those Saturdays when only parcels were delivered. Mail hasn’t been a priority for the company for a while, so leave it till Wednesday.
