How was my day?

A fooking shambells, got trained on new walk yesterday but person training me didn't tell me anything about frame even though I asked them about 20times while I was standing there. Then when we actually got out he told me to do a few houses and by the time i'd done those he'd bugged off half way down the road and didn't even tell me what he'd just done!

Anyway after yesterdays crap, got into work this morning and it was like the blind leading the blind. Manager had a go at me for sorting my stuff out so slowly. In the end I just went into one and burst into tears (sounds a bit dramatic but I felt so stressed and under pressure)

Anyway got out of office at 10:30am and didn't get back till 3pm so that'll serve em right next time.

Btw does anyone know what stuff can be changed if you have dyslexia?

How many days training did you have? Not just the one, surely? I had someone out on the walk with me 4 days running (but still got lost on my first day alone!)

I got a day and a half in the "class room" at Maidstone, half a day cut & tipping, then two days on a walk ( not getting any help with prepping from my "trainer" ) then left to my own devices on the Saturday

18 months, and a different DO later, I'm puppy walking someone to cover me when I have a week's leave next week, already he is sharper on the prep than I was, probably as slow walking as I was, and prone to a bit of dead walking, but I feel happy ( and happier ) that he is in a better position than I was when I started.....given a bit of time and experience ( and if he doesn't get jerked around by RM ) I reckon he'll be a good postie :Very Happy

( I'm also liking the fact that we was done and delivered today within 2 & 1/2hrs :dance :dance :dance Roll on Saturday )
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Yep just the one, when I first started back in September they had me on 5 days training but that was collection, 2 days training on another walk but that gets prep already for me to band up and go. Yesterday just the one day and that was it, just a case of having to get on with it myself  I guess it's a bit like that in our office, they put me on Christmas collection aswell but had to find my own way around the post offices!

Casual in my place(he's employed by RM on a 12 week contract) was shown a walk 'once' then was put on another one.
Starts at 6 'AM' prepping and what not,and finishes the walk around 5-30 'PM'

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Fecking wind -Image - No not a dietary problem the bloody weather. How come although I go up both sides of the road its blowing in my face all the time.

With the wind, Unison Magazine and NPower telling everyone why their bills are going up it was a complete fubar day. Ah well as of 32 minutes ago I am off till Monday week.

I was on my todd today ( it was my puppy's day off ) and I took 2hrs 45 mins from first drop to last - I think that has to be one of my best, especially for a Friday.....but a bit of an anti-climax after yesterday

Still, he'll be back on tomorrow, so a quick finish & an early knock off, then I'm off to start enjoying my week off! woo-hoo! :dance :dance :dance

I have some questions (if you don't mind!)

What's 'cut & tipping' and 'dead walking' ?

You'd naturally want someone well trained up to look after your walk when you'r off. If they made loads of mistakes you'd get the blame when you go back!
... bit like me when I go in after my day off, every week. There's some street names, and house names that are very similar and easily confused (for a newbie) but really the lad that does my walk when I'm off should know by now.

Most of my customers that I've spoken to, know I've got next week off, and I reckon a few others will have seen me and the puppy walking 'round this week. Mind you, this is the first puppy I've walked, but from what I have heard his length of training is extended and the exception - either way, I stand by what I said the other day, if he doesn't get treated like s**t by RM, he'll become a good postman. :dance

Cut and tipping is where you get sealed mail bags, cut the cable tie, then tip the contents into an ALT or a York to be ready for sorting.

Dead walking is literally walking over "dead" ground that you don't need to, for example forgetting a packet ( cos it's in your pouch ) & going back to post it....the journey from point A ( where you remember it ) to point B ( where you deliver it ) and back is "dead walking"......if you have to double back and forth a lot on your delivery, then you do a lot of dead walking. I don't think it is pukka jargon, but I reckon most would understand what you mean - or at least bluff it! :Very Happy

I see...thanks. I guessed the dead walking bit, as I seem to do quite a bit myself!

My manager tried to do me today for not going on the IPS sorting even though I've never been trained on it. Started in 2004, never been trained on the IPS.
