If that were to happen then I reckon both DOs and MCs would be 09:00-17:00 as it would save RM a load on shift allowances2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 06:29I can see it being moved to a 72 hour turnaround so it doesnt matter what time it comes to the delivery office it will b delivered the day after.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 22:01
If anything I can see final dispatch time sbeing moved back a little bit soon. Where as before from an RDC to a MC you might have had two part filled lorries during the night, now they'll just send 1 full one, which arrives later

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
We are probably heading towards to salary get the job done for no extra pay, so as long as the works in the building start /finish times wuld be family friendly to start/finish when you wantSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 07:25If that were to happen then I reckon both DOs and MCs would be 09:00-17:00 as it would save RM a load on shift allowances2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 06:29I can see it being moved to a 72 hour turnaround so it doesnt matter what time it comes to the delivery office it will b delivered the day after.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 22:01

All that might be OK for normal mail but what about Tracked and specials, etc?

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
So we have an appalling pay rise imposed on us, not forgetting that they initially didn’t want to give us anything without strings. Pressure o/t has been removed from our office. It’s getting hotter.eastie wrote: ↑09 Jul 2022, 19:11Thompson moaning about actuals showing everyone slowing down.
Does he realise in his air conditioned office we are trying to work in 30 degree heat and driving in a sweat box of a van with windows closed
.
I'm in my 60's and strugling big time in this heat and what has Thompson said about the heatwave, absolutely nothing and just work faster
So yes, I’m only taking out what I feel I can do in the time allocated, maybe a little less. And yes, I might have slowed down a little. I wonder why?

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
On my round there are no trees or anywhere to seek shade so van is like a sauna and its just too dammed hot .
its alright Thompson saying go back to the office but the DOM will start moaning about willful delay and Fred Bloggs can do it so why not you bollocks.
They should say at all delivery offices if it reaches temperatures of say 32 degrees only do say half a round.
Our office didnt have a revision and we are still doing another half a round in resource to demand as everyone is leaving, retiring early and the new starters only last for a few weeks and said f**k that and leave. They didnt expect to be walking about 14 miles and out for 5.5 hours doing collections emptying boxes Big parcels ,scanning and photographing. They say they can do far easier jobs for the same or better money

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
Guilty as charged, have to admit we took all the parcels out the bags for our last 2 loops & did them from the van, just to kill a bit of time & we have already discussed what we are leaving in the frame on Monday, looking around our office I think everyone's given up, Royal Mail lost the dressing room.

Just what do you expect to do when you get in at 4am, most DOs won't have had their first run arrive from the local MC by then2yearpostie wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 11:14Dont care what they say, under health and safety rules im goning in at 4am and finishing before midday.

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
When it gets this hot, delivery can be a torturous nightmare with nowhere to hide from the sweltering sun. If the vans had air con it would make such a difference having a little cool box to escape to between loops, rather than a horrendous sweat box.
I understand people slowing their pace but i tend to speed up in a desperate hope to finish as early as i can and avoid that horrible heat post 1/2pm
To then get back to the office feeling relieved you’ve managed to not pass out and be sent back out in it again!!!

Hopefully in the not too distant future they won't be able to buy vans that don't have it as standard.

Re: 30 degree heat whilst working
Takes five minutes for the air con to work how long can you have the engine running without being accused of Idling years ago we did not have Vans as much as we now do. As such it was not a problem doing a 2 and half hour duty as you were not in a van but things changed for the worse sorry for your predicament for this affects us all!claretandblue wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 13:45Apparently royal mail payed extra to get the vans without air con.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑10 Jul 2022, 12:07Hopefully in the not too distant future they won't be able to buy vans that don't have it as standard.
