My colleague has been told that he has got to report to a different DO on Monday for the week.

This DO is closer to his home anyway so that isn't a problem.

What is the issue is that he's been put on to a duty which also includes an afternoon collection.

His normal duty allows him to finish at 2pm but this will force him to work until 5.30pm which he isn't happy about.

He knows the collection so that isn't any way of getting out of it.

Can anyone advise me of his rights?
Looks like twoloops wants to hijack your thread mate hope you get some good advice soon. :thumbup sorry unable to help.

No. The only issues he has is being sent to a different DO to work a completely different shift pattern.

I had to work night's late's in the 1990's it is in your contract but this thing will be worse with Sunday working which is minimal now but will become more in the future if we don't fight it. We all have these contracts we should all read them because you never know! Ps sorry for your mate

If he is a reserve in his parent office and you have late turns that he has been asked to perform in the past then it's not unreasonable to ask him to go to different office to perform a late turn. If he is signed to a duty then he would require reasonable notice for change on shift pattern. Hard to define reasonable notice but I would suggest 28 days is the most generous he could hope for. Being told on Friday your on a different shift pattern next week in a different office is unreasonable. Contact your rep

Does he have kids that someone else usually collects but unfortunately they can't so it's down to him, or does he have any other "pre booked" appointments or commitments like taking his elderly parents to the doctors :shhhhh

Doesnt the business need to give you more notice than that if they want to change your hours of attendance?

How long has he been in the job?

This is what I was thinking. Its out of order to send someone to a different office then a completely different shift pattern.

But if they've worked late in the past with minimal notice they are probably on dodgy ground? The insurance issue is of more concern, if they only have cover for cummuting to a fixed place of employment they will be effectively uninsd if they drive to another DO, even if it is closer to home. They either need to check the position with their insurers, and record the conversation(!), or inform the COM they'll need to arrange their transport.

Actually just been thinking similar myself, re-read the original post and it says he knows the collection so presumably did it on overtime which might indicate working later isn't a valid issue.

Yes, he's done the collection on overtime before so knows the collection.

It's just that he's being told to go to a different office and do a completely different "shift pattern" whilst there.
