Genuinely not sure how the management structure "works." In our depot all that changed is one lino got moved to another depot and replaced, and the artist formerly known as the DOM does lino duty on days others are off. They all seem to do the same jobs as before, but they're all still there when we get back (usually sitting in an office.)
Then a new one turned up that the others are all kissing up to, if she walks past their section they're suddenly super proactive and telling people to do the jobs they're already doing... Once she's gone they're back to normal.
Possibly she's someone from above scoping us out to be a "parcel hub" or whatever

Re: Playing into their hands?
My office appears to be trying to crack down on a lot, but ultimately the culture still trumps everything.
It all started with managers suddenly more positive when the DOM who was a terrible person all round, got paid off. Sorting areas got moved about and many areas tidied up. However it's quickly descended into the same as before, pressure from above and the managers with the least seniority having to try and pressure staff. New threats are voiced from management now, but still the real work shy ones have a free pass. One guy looks like he's still wearing clothes that he's slept in, and some finishing crazy early, it's laughable. All the while short on staff and many new starters unhappy it appears.
I'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks that many (not all!) employees who have been here since school really are wasters. There are some real hard workers here, and it really makes me unhappy that the wasters really do drag the company down. Simon and co are far from saints, but when i know what goes on, i understand that those at the top need little more reason to treat us like children who need micro managing, because well, many do.

Anyone arriving over 5 minutes late for their shift gets a dressing down in a managers office, anyone back at the depot over 40 minutes from the end time is given extra work (prepping, D2Ds, LATs etc,) and those walkers that get the driver to drop them at the bus stop/ station/ home so they don't have to go back to the depot are being made to sign back in after their shift.
'Anyone coming back to the depot 40 minutes early is given extra work'....
Are you telling me that it is a regular occurrence that Posties go home this early at your depot?.......and people think that's ok?
Finally you can't...and they are stopping people and they are complaining?
So is it the case that a large number of depots out there have rounds that are too short. Royal Mail need to fix this before making any of those changes they want to make..... they could save a tonne of money by increasing the size of these tiny rounds and reducing staff at these depots.

Re: Playing into their hands?
The one getting the most angry and self righteous about being sent out again is the guy who boasts he can do any route in the building before 11am.
Managers and other posties are well aware of the way he does it: whatever route he did the day before mysteriously has at least 3 more crates of IPS than anyone else, in bundle order, the next morning. Because he's a RDC he rarely has to pick up his own mess. (If you're wondering how he gets the mail to the IPS, he comes in 15 minutes late with all his pouches, wanders over to IPS when it's quiet, then appears at his frame with visibly less bulky pouches).
He gets away with it as well. Managers give him a special pass to half-arse the job, turn a blind eye to him coming back at 11 and disappearing, yet people who work really hard (and there are a lot of them) get sent back out when they return at 1.
As I see it, the more people fight back against the perfectly reasonable request to work your time then go home, the more ammo the company has against us all

Not all rounds are created equal.norris9 wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 18:44

In fairness a lot of the rounds are sort of suburban with random blocks of flats amongst them... When they're busy they're unmanageable, when quiet you can pop into a 30 flat block to drop 3 letters and it takes no time at all. The rurals are all still 4-5 hours (and furthest from the depot), but yes there are an excess of people coming back early: this week one guy's been taking both sides out on a double and only got back after 3 once, it's been exceptionally quiet

I can't believe that, so you're saying he brings a load of bundles of mail back the next day then puts it in the ips fitting obviously in the correct delivery order and he hasn't been challenged !Kenfandango wrote: ↑01 Jul 2022, 19:02The one getting the most angry and self righteous about being sent out again is the guy who boasts he can do any route in the building before 11am.

So in your offices how is your manager's days off covered?
