While i believe the police have a point, still i have no sympathy for the fascist bully boys who done Thatchers dirty work during the miners strike of 1984

During our IA I found the police in the area very supportive of our cause.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Well, I'm glad to see that there is 100% support for them so far. Long may it continue!

A lot has changed since 84. For a start, there are a lot of Police now, who were at School when that happened. There's no point holding it against them now. Even Thatcher is long gone from Politics (thank goodness!).

Well I don't want to be branded a fascist but that WAS almost a quarter of a century ago - the police forces today face a much more aggressive criminal than yesterday, guns, knives, drugs and all without being armed. I think they deserve to be paid in accordance and I think we should be looking to arm more police. The problem for the police is that the courts are too lenient on criminals - personally I'd bring back public flogging and hanging.

I also don't think it comes down to whether or not you support the police, but for me its the principle.

The Police agreed in the 1920s to a now strike deal as long as their pay was decided independently and would always be accepted. So who are the first Government who ignore this deal, a Conservative one, no a so called Socialist one. You could not make it up.

So for me if they sign an agreement they must honor it, and if we don't support them how we can we expect anyone to support us when Royal Mail abrogate their agreements, which they have and may do so again.

As a Trade Unionist I don't think you can decide on whether or not to support a dispute based on what work they do, but only on whether their cause is just or not.

Ps Most of the really bad Police during the Miners Strike where the Met Police from London, and what with a lot of them being done for corruption in the intervening 23 and half years most will have retired or left by now.
